Stupid question about how to use an iron...

I know this seems really stupid but I've never understood
do you have to use the water/steam function for it to work properly? Every time I do the clothes just end up soaked so I must be doing it wrong. Whenever I try and use it without the water it doesn't really work.
I used to just not iron anything but my dryers broken so now school uniform will need ironing because it comes off the airer insanely creased.

Your iron might not be working properly then.

Generally you only need steam/squirty water if something is more creased. But that’s generally when I’m ironing! Maybe turn the steam down and just use the squirty water.

If you give it a good shake/flick before you put it on the airer it might not need ironing.

If the temperaturs is too cool you won't get steam, just splodges of water everywhere, so if you are not using a hot temperature turn the steam off.

If you need cool you can always use a damp tea towel between iron and clothing to help with the creasing.

I do however agree with the previous poster, make sure stuff is shaken well and pulled flat on the airers and it should come off OK.

I use steam for almost everything, but that doesn't leave anything wet. Does your iron need descaling?

Are you closing the cap for the water tank properly? Mine splats water everywhere if I don't click it shut properly.

I use steam and don't get everything wet. How hot is your iron setting?
