Why can’t you buy National trust gift membership monthly?

Just that really? I wanted to get it as a joint present for my mom and dad but I wanted to pay monthly direct debit, why can’t I just say it’s for myself but put there details in and pay on dd?

Why don't you just put their details and your bank details in a normal membership rather than a gift membership?

Mushroomlady · 28/08/2022 08:28

Maybe best to contact them and ask??

Saucery · 28/08/2022 08:32

I’d get in touch and ask them. I don’t see why you couldn’t put the recipient details in and your bank details for direct debit monthly, unless the addresses need to match.

drunktrifle · 28/08/2022 08:36

I did this for my parents, I don't think I did it as a gift membership though.

ZenNudist · 28/08/2022 08:38

Do they do a one year membership you can pay monthly? Would seem strange for a gift. A normal membership rolls over so you would have to cancel next year and if you didn't would have to pay another year...

I’d do this, a membership is a membership, it doesn’t need to go through as a gift.

You can. In fact they prefer DD to a one off payment. You need to set up a gift membership. Give the membership line a call. They will be happy to help you set it up.

AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair · 28/08/2022 08:43

Are you saying you've tried and it wont let you or you haven't tried?

Do they really have a system that throws out an application where the bank account name is different to the member names. That doesn't seem a good way to get new members

Toddlerteaplease · 28/08/2022 08:46

I wanted to do that for my friend but you can't. It's really annoying. I didn't renew it in the end. Was also difficult as the renewal letter was sent to me not him. And they just couldn't seem to deal with it!

Saucery · 28/08/2022 08:46

Gift Membership mentions an annual direct debit, maybe that’s what OP is referring to. Monthly would be better for a lot of people, but you would have to remember to cancel it at the end of the year. They do contact you to renew gift memberships at the end of the 12 months.

Iwasjustasking · 28/08/2022 08:51

Thanks all, yes on the NT website it says that gift options must be paid all in one go where as if you join for yourself you can pay by dd, I was going to just join as if I was joining but out my parents details in? I presume on the NTembership cards it only has the members name no other details?

Sorry for typos!

Just join on a normal membership, use your parents names but your banking details, and make a note to cancel in 10 months time - I usually get my new membership card about 6 weeks before my year is up.

Toddlerteaplease · 28/08/2022 09:14

@IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads I don't think you can do that either. Think I tried it! I have life membership and can take a guest so we just use that now.

Fair enough. They must have clamped down, I have done this in the past!!
