Present for new baby

Nocaloriesinchocolate · 27/08/2022 18:50

Help please. My days of intimate connection with new born babies are long gone . I want to give a present to a new born baby. It’s her grandparents we really know rather than the parents so we dont know what she has already. Any ideas for what we can give? £20 - £30 we thought.

I wouldn’t get clothes for various reasons. Don’t get them comforters as they’ll get loads. The best gift we got was a sheepskin rug for him to sleep and lie on. I will be getting it for friends from
now onwards.

OOh, wooden letters sound fun. What’s My First Years please? DS is 37 so I’m totally out of touch!)

A Julia McDonald book set. I spent hours reading these to my DD. You'll find them on Amazon.

If I didn't know the parents well and what they would like I'd buy books. Maybe a nicely illustrated version of e.g. Winnie the Pooh (if you want to give them something to keep) or some Julia Donaldson or 'That's not my...' stories.

Not expensive but a gift we always give because my wee one got so much use out of it is the manhatten toy mini infant stim mobile. Honestly was one of the most used/loves toys for AGES. That and captain calamari or Freddie firefly, or the lamaze soft ring stacker. The photos and memories we have of kiddo with them are way more than the keepsake gifts we got, as beautiful ans appreciated as they are.

Sheepskin baby rug is lovely - I got one for January baby Gdc3, but they’re pricey. Mine came from Celtic Sheepskin - lovely and soft.

Since they usually get plenty of young-baby stuff - clothes and baby toys, not to mention cuddly teds and bunnies etc., more than once I’ve given a cloth book or two from Jellycat - the ‘Tails’ ones are lovely. I add a note to say, ‘For when you’re a little bit bigger….’

I know some people don't like it, but I loved the outfits my parents friends bought for our kids. We got some really lovely clothes (often from places we wouldn't buy ourselves!) That have been much loved through multiple children and we always think of the people when the kids wear them. I had a couple of gifts from Newbie which we loved.

DD’s local Fairtrade shop does those brightly painted wooden letters - she’s given their as new baby presents more than once.

A Taggy Blanket is a lovely gift for a new-born. Etsy or eBay have personalised ones. Or take a look on the Royal Mint website. They often do coins of the year gift sets for newborns.

My partners godmother bought our baby a sensory toy from priya and peanut - was a really good gift as baby loves it. Also our baby loved her cuddle blanket from the cuddle company, personalised with her name on. Most used toy is a baby Einstein easy grab ball - used it for months!!

Cotton knitted blanket (TKMaxx or Amazon) and a story book with a message written inside the cover. We always give The Owl Babies and Winnie the Pooh which were our ds favourites.
