London restaurant for group of 10

I'm looking at booking a London restaurant for a group of 10 in October. Somewhere fun which doesn't cost a fortune and preferably close to either Victoria, Waterloo, Covent Garden or Soho

What sort of food do you like

InsertPunHere · 27/08/2022 12:16

“Doesn’t cost a fortune” is a bit “how long is a piece of string”

How much per head for a main course is your ballpark?

MKCH · 27/08/2022 12:18

The Duke of Sussex right near Waterloo has a nice private (but not swanky private) dining room and was very nice. Kind of standard pub grub but nice area.

Dishoom in CG is lovely.

wondabar · 27/08/2022 15:03

I phoned Dishoom but they don't have availability. Open to any type of food but would like good atmosphere. Probably £40 per head but some may eat less than others. Haven't seen each other for ages so there will be lots of talking and possibly not too much eating!

Love this Mexican place - you can spend as much as you want, they can accommodate big groups and do amazing cocktails:

Draughts at Waterloo is quite good fun if you like board games and tapas style food

VanillaSugar2022 · 27/08/2022 15:23

Joe Allen’s in Covent Garden.

MKCH · 27/08/2022 15:32

You've also got Jack's Bar and Ev Restaurant under the arches between Waterloo and Southwark.

The 10 Cases in Covent Garden
Belgos
Japes soho
Bocca di Lupo
Duck Soup
Pollen Street Social

Your parameters are so broad, there are hundreds!!

£40 per head at Pollen Street Social?????

Lochroy · 27/08/2022 15:49

I've taken a work group here before now. I think the price is excellent for the location and the food was good (albeit it a few years ago now so perhaps read some recent reviews). It's not huge or buzzing but we liked that as we could easily talk.

Ha yes, good catch - I didn't mean there at all, but now trying to work out/remember where I actually meant!!

EllenWaiteourkid · 27/08/2022 17:08

Pizza Express on the Southbank if it is more about the chat and the wine than the food.

Duck Soup and The 10 cases are tiny for a party of 10. Bocca do Lupo and the Pollen St Social will end up costing way more than £40 a head.

BellaEllaWella · 27/08/2022 17:17

belgos has also shut down
Circola Populare would be fun but it’s £45ish per head for a set menu if over 8 and you need to book as soon as it opens a month I’m advance

LBOCS2 · 27/08/2022 17:41

Any particular cuisine? There are a few things around Victoria, I particularly like Bone Brothers for ramen. Boulevard Brasserie in Covent Garden is a good shout, Fatt Pundit is also good for a group - lots of smaller sharing Indian dishes; almost like Indian tapas. And Flat Iron is good, as long as everyone likes steak!

wondabar · 28/08/2022 21:32

Thanks for all the recommendations. Annoyingly the majority don't accept group bookings of 8 or more without our committing to a particular menu and ordering in advance. We just want somewhere fun, possibly not somewhere too chainy like Pizza Express.

We booked for 12 people at the Royal India on Endell Street, off Long Acre in Covent Garden. It's nothing fancy, just an old fashioned curry house. My vegetable thali cost £15 and we had plenty of beer and stayed for a few hours.
