She’s been fine absolutely all day. Went for a walk and got back about 5.30ish. I did notice her having a chew of her tail but she does occasionally do this and it wasn’t excessive.

Lay down next to me for a while, she had her supper at about 7pm and a run in the garden. I went to the supermarket at 8pm and got back at 9.

When i got back it was immediately apparent that her tail is was clearly bothering her. She’s chewing the tip and whining, can’t seem to settle. I’ve looked at it and it’s not cut at all. She’s chewed the fur a bit and it’s wet from chewing. No obvious signs of anything wrong but she’s obviously upset? Google suggests an allergy or impacted anal glands - would that come on this soon?

Wondering whether she needs the emergency vet or whether to see how she is in the morning..

I’d say see how she is in the morning - can you wash her tail with just plain tepid water? It might help relieve whatever is bothering her but don’t use shampoo unless you’re certain she’s got something on it and you have proper dog shampoo etc x Sounds like something has irritated it or she’s been bitten - check for a tick too x

LizziesTwin · 26/08/2022 22:53

If it was her anal glands I think she’d be licking her bottom rather than the tip of her tail. Have you got a cone you can put on her?

Itsthelookitsthelook · 26/08/2022 23:00

I'd also wash it and see how she gets on. I would think she could wait til morning.

i would leave until the morning but keep a close eye on her. Is it possible she has been stung by a wasp? Mine get stung a lot and it causes a lot of distress, whining, pacing & licking of the sting. Also agree with above anal glands she would be focusing on her bottom.

WiggleyPuff · 26/08/2022 23:03

I don’t have a cone. She really doesn’t want me to touch it but from what I can see she’s got no ticks or (obvious) bites etc

I'll try washing it now - thank you for the tips

Could she have been stung by a wasp or something? Anal glands problem was very much licking her bottom in my dogs case, not her tail.

Washing in tepid water sounds the best idea and see how she is in the morning. Hopefully it will go as quick as it came whatever it is!

Look for a wasp sting.

Wash in lukewarm salt water and cover it

WiggleyPuff · 26/08/2022 23:21

Omg.

She’s just thrown up half a dead pigeon.

Oh god! I was just about to say she might have been stung as my dog was like this when he got stung on the paw

Seems you may have found the reason. Are you both okay? 😷

WiggleyPuff · 26/08/2022 23:23

She seems -a bit better and has settled.

She must have caught it in the garden and eaten it whole and it hurt her tummy? Will she be okay? 😱

Yes, she should be fine. Maybe a funny tummy over next 24hrs but unlikely to need vets.

Mollymalone123 · 26/08/2022 23:45

Oh poor thing! Hope she is better soon x

HardRockOwl · 26/08/2022 23:54

God how revolting. No wonder she's a bit off colour! Hopefully she will settle now - err maybe worm her in a day or two!

mac1974 · 27/08/2022 00:02

Just keep an eye on her over the next couple of days. I'm sure she will be fine.
I completely love my dog but they can be disgusting sometimes can't they.

rocksonrocks · 27/08/2022 00:48

Oh. My. God. A pigeon?! Dogs are disgusting aren't they?

My 12 week old puppy threw up half a chew toy and his back tooth earlier this evening. Must remember how cute they are. 🤮

rocksonrocks · 27/08/2022 00:49

Oh and yes please worm her!

Babyroobs · 27/08/2022 01:41

Our cocker spaniel used to eat whole socks then regurgitate them a day or two later. they really are gross at times.

WiggleyPuff · 27/08/2022 09:54

Oh my god it was utterly disgusting- I don’t think she even chewed. Beak and everything 😷

Thankfully she seems fine this morning. Glad I didn’t take her to the vet - can you imagine! Er. This is not an emergency your gross dog has just swallowed an entire pigeon and now has a tummy ache 😂
