Eye pain - what could it be?

Should just say I have rung opticians and they are going to hopefully call me back.

Since Wednesday it hurts to move my eye up or down or sideways. Just the left eye. Eye looks normal, no discharge etc

Wondered if it could be migraine but no headache.

Made the mistake of googling now worried I have something badly wrong. Just wondering if anyone has ever had this? Doesn’t seem like it could be an eye infection.

Did they ring back? Are they open late?

for future reference, some opticians are part of the urgent eye care scheme, it doesn’t have to be an optician you’ve used before & there is a bit to put your postcode in to find a local one. I hope they get back to you soon & it’s nothing serious.

They rang back and said soonest appointment 9 September. I checked that link but nearest place is 30 miles away!

If you’re worried something may be badly wrong, a 60 mile round trip would be worth it for peace of mind.
111? although I’m not sure what the situation is with hospital eye clinics at the weekend, it may be a very lengthy wait. Our hospital eye clinic is always running at least 2 hours behind your appointment time on an average week day!

Make it a priority to get it checked out. My mum had the same and ended up being a detached retina.

Don't want to frighten you and it’s probably much more innocent - but you never know.

Detached retina doesn’t usually cause pain. It’s more likely to present as an increase in floaters and / or a black curtain which interferes with vision.

Eye pain is more likely to be some sort of inflammation or infection. I think you need to ring the local opticians round where you are and ask for an emergency appointment. They usually keep one or two appointments a day clear for nhs eye emergencies. If they spot something they’ll refer you straight to a and e eye clinic.

(I have lots of vision issues including retinal problems and am under a specialist).

Call 111. I got urgent referral to an eye clinic. Good luck.

I had to take my sister to A+E a few years ago with eye pain which turned out to be Irisitis, which I didn't even know was a thing!
