Anything I can do to help me feel better after food poisoning / stomach bug?

I don’t know whether it was food poisoning or a stomach bug but oh my god I have never had D&V like it before. I was so, so ill from about 7pm-12am last night. I had felt sick from 4pm onwards.

I haven’t had any D&V since 12am but have felt pretty nauseous all day. Have managed one piece of toast since yesterday lunchtime. Trying to drink water but probably nowhere near as much as I should be drinking.

I am exhausted and have a headache and just want this to pass. Any tips on how I can help myself feel slightly more human?

Dioralyte (it will help replace salts and minerals) and sleep as much as you can.

I hope you’re feeling better soon.

Treat it like a hangover . You need the electrolyte sports drink and a nibble on some salty crisps.
Then a banana then once that’s stayed in a baked potato with the tiniest amount of butter bearable and something on Netflix . A good nights sleep after that and you’ll be grand .
your body doesn’t hold on well to certain nutrients after losing a lot of water so this is a pathway to gently topping each of these back up.

A good quality organic lemonade, boiled and cooled ( advice from HV when my baby was v.ill with a bug). Sip teaspoons, don’t gulp. The boiling denatures the enzymes and gives you some calories and energy. Ditto boiled sweets, if you still feel queasy. Cold, full-sugar Coke without the fizz is also good after vomiting after a few hours .

Stay off milk and other dairy products for a while - you can be temporarily lactose intolerant after D and V and need to introduce them gradually. The medical advice I was given after a bug was to start with yoghurt after several days and reintroduce cheese and milk very gradually - this took s month when I had Norovirus once.

Other food that will stay down in moderation: white rice, apple sauce from a jar , white bread (pref toasted), Rich Tea biscuits, one or two ‘mini’ biscuits from a snack-pack like Jammy Dodgers, crackers and ready-salted crisps. Be very careful with quantities of crisps and some brands like Walkers Sensations, seem to affect people’s stomachs if you over-do it,
Hope you feel better soon.
