Someone was eating crisps in my garden at 4am!

I was woken by noises in the garden, I tried looking out of the window but it was was too dark so I was asked 'hello?'
No reply.
I thought I could see someone on a chair directly underneath me.

I crept downstairs.

Opened the locked back door (so knew it wasn't any of my teens out there)

The chair had a dark towel on it, no person.

I could still hear someone munching crisps, I stepped out and there was a hedgehog licking the inside of a packet of sweets!

I tried to get him some fish cat food but he ran off. I've left it incase he comes back.

His little face was so sweet!!
I hope there weren't any sweets in the bag. Will be having a word with DC about that.

So cute though.

You had me worried for a second there OP lol

Mumdiva99 · 26/08/2022 04:33

Aah congratulations on your hedgehog 'baby'. You will find yourself leaving water out in multiple accessible locations. There should be enough food around already.

'Our ' hedgehog is particularly noisy at dusk. That's when we've seen him in the garden. They are fascinating.

TakeABowSheila · 26/08/2022 04:36

Oh I'll leave him water tomorrow night. I was so confused at the noise.

They're fast little things! I've not seen one in years.

Aw 😍
I got worried though!

SilentHedges · 26/08/2022 06:08

Hi OP, thank you for putting some food out. However (and i know its all you probably had to hand!) but Hedgehogs aren't interested in anything fish flavoured. It's not natural to them.

Poulty/meat flavoured cat biscuits and cat food (never mealworms) and fresh water all year round, especially as its been so hot.

Enjoy.

Sally2791 · 26/08/2022 06:10

Please don’t feed fish! Very bad for hedgehogs

N0mnomnom · 26/08/2022 06:36

Aww they are pretty cute! There is a hedgehog survey asking to register sightings, 'hedgehog street' I think it was.

MushMonster · 26/08/2022 06:44

Aw they are the cutest things, I love them!
I hope you get to spot it many times.
Thanks for taking care of it

Aposterhasnoname · 26/08/2022 06:53

Soon as I saw the title I knew this would be a hog. Such cute little guys.

sashh · 26/08/2022 06:54

They can be fast when they want to. Glad it was a hog and nothing bad.

BOOTS52PollyPrissyPants · 26/08/2022 07:46

Aw that is soo cute and will be back for food and water. Can you imagine how cute little hedgehog babies are. All as I saw in my small garden was a magpie and a crow ha!!

Northernsoullover · 26/08/2022 07:48

We got woken up whilst camping once to a loud rustling and scuffling to find a hedgehog in our porch eating a packet of digestive biscuits that hadn't been properly stored 😳.

Harrystylestutu · 26/08/2022 08:03

@Northernsoullover haha!
I found a giant one a few nights ago. My dog was barking so I went out to check and could hear such loud crunching I thought it was a person or rat or something. This badboy was chowing down on a snail Envy my dog lay down on the patio and didn't bother moving when he came and had a drink from his water bowl 😍

RaRaRaspoutine · 26/08/2022 08:49

You will think hedgehogs are cute, until you hear them having sex under your bedroom window at midnight and realise they're loud dirty feckers😎

TakeABowSheila · 26/08/2022 15:44

Omg I thought fish was the one your were supposed to give them 🤦🏻‍♀️ I chose fish out of the multipack

No wonder he didn't touch it.

I'll go with chicken tonight!

Can I just say I absolutely love this thread!

KneesAndBees · 26/08/2022 15:50

One strolled into my basement flat one day, he had rolled down the steep garden. I took him to a park the next day to find friends to play with.

Ladybird69 · 27/08/2022 03:40

I have a couple of stories. Years ago I was sitting in my sunlounger and something came crashing through the hedge!, i screamed and it was a tiny hedgehog! They can make a lot of noise. Then I got home anotHer night late at night and as I was unlocking my door my foot touched a parcel, which I then scooped up, f@#k it was a huge hedgehoh ouch lol. Love them so much tho

jennyofthenorth · 27/08/2022 06:07

ah a hedgie!! You could get one of those ring type cameras to "watch" your friend in his natural (aka your garden) habitat! could be super fun if you have kids

Georgeskitchen · 27/08/2022 08:37

You're braver than me!! No way would i have opened the door if I heard noises in the garden.
I would have sent DP to investigate 🤣🤣

ReviewingTheSituation · 27/08/2022 09:50

On the basis of the title alone, I knew it would be a hedgehog! They're so noisy (and cute). We have gravel underneath the bedroom window and they scuttle back and forth on it, then stop for a good snuffle - it's amazingly loud for such small creatures.
