Long story short, we live in a very old damp and draughty rented house but it's very cheap and fairly remote which is good for us as our autistic ds is quite loud.
Major building work needs doing which involves replacing the floors upstairs and a wall and bringing down the ceilings downstairs and putting steel rods in. We can't live there while that's going on so we have to move in with inlaws next week who live 30 mins drive away and there will be 9 of us in a 3 bed house. We can't afford any other option.
Our house is so old that if the builders fix one problem they are likely to find 3 more. They have said hopefully be done by Christmas but no guarantees and there is a very real danger the entire house will collapse.
I'm worrying about what will happen to us if the house collapses? We can't afford private rent. Would we be entitled to a council house as we would not technically be homeless, just overcrowded. Would we be waiting years for a council house?
Also any tips for packing with kids underfoot much appreciated as we seem to be getting nowhere fast and have boxes everywhere.
