Ruptured Ovarian Cyst

Hi looking for any experience...

3am on Tuesday morning I woke with excruciating pain as in unbearable what the hell is wrong kind of pain in my left hand lower side.. I was screaming and crying in pain... cut a long story short I was diagnosed with a ruptured ovarian cyst... I was in bed the following day and prescribed Dihydrocodeine.. I could still feel the pain through these meds.. this was unbelievable as I had these after a c section 2 years ago and took all the pain away..

Had to get on my feet Thursday due to being a Mum to a two year old lol, I didn't do much I feel completely wiped out no energy feeling a bit sick and hot and bothered... no fever.. I really still don't feel right most of the pain is away in my abdominal area just tender but I didn't expect to physically feel so drained and sick from this.. again I don't know anything much about these as I've never experienced this before or even heard about it prior to happening...

Anyone had this happen before and feel so run down?! How long for?!?

Thanks 😊

how did they diagnose a cyst? Is it possible you might be pregnant?

KLM19 · 25/08/2022 13:34

Through asking questions and feeling my tummy. In general without going into to much detail symptoms too.

1 million percent not pregnant this was checked also along with other things it could have been.

Was fine within two days of mine. Didn't have any long term after effects. Could they say how big it was originally?
I'd had regular pain for months getting worse & that never returned so a great improvement.

Ah just read your second post, if you didn't have a scan they wouldn't have seen the size of the cyst. If it's completely ruptured then hopefully it will have gone as mine did.

Was this diagnosed by your GP or at hospital? A ruptured ovarian cyst can be pretty serious if it causes peritonitis (inflammation of the peritoneum from the cyst fluid). Peritonitis is fairly easy to diagnose with an examination - the abdomen is usually very tense/rigid and painful and you will be systemically unwell. Could it be a torsion of a cyst instead? You need an ultrasound scan if the pain is that bad. A scan will show up free fluid in the abdomen too.

I was in hospital for 4 days when I had a ruptured ovarian cyst at the age of 19. To be fair, however, I was extremely run down because of depression so recovery took a couple of weeks.

Did you get antibiotics in case of infection?

If you're worried it's worth seeing the GP.

Hope you feel better soon. Flowers

Diagnosed by hospital but also had a confirmation with my Gp the following day, no scan needed as they were confident this is what it was and they said the don't do follow ups scans ect unless more than once this has happened.. they all seem 100% that this is what it was... fluid was mentioned yes.. abdomen was checked also so this being there diagnosis. The pain was excruciating and I generally deal with pain very well... as a said the pain is just tender now. Just feel very run down and sick in general. They didn't mention this at the time and I don't want to be that annoying person who calls up... just told to take it easy and take my medication and will be better in 2 weeks.

Thank you @GrouchyKiwi

No antibiotics at all... I feel like I didn't even know what to ask because to be honest I had never heard of this before...

God so sorry you went through that!! Especially so young 😞

I had pain for about 5 days but didn't get over the nausea and things for about 2 weeks! It happened a few days after Christmas typically when I'd finally booked some AL! X

KLM19 · 25/08/2022 14:15

Thanks @OnlyaMummy good to hear the nausea is normal!!!

And yes always the same it's like when you go to relax and boom not a chance!!

Gosh poor you, this sounds horrendous. Are you a single mum? If not your partner needs to take your child off your hands for a few days so that you can rest and recover. Or could another family member or trusted friend help you? You don't want to risk an infection. No experience of this, only massive sympathy.

Ponderingwindow · 25/08/2022 14:21

My big one happened quite suddenly. I was just walking through my house and then collapsed in pain. Within a few hours I was shaking and had a high fever. Hospital did an ultrasound and there was a lot of fluid in my abdomen and I had an infection. I got some hard core antibiotics. I managed to go to work the next day, but only because I had a crazy, demanding job that was calling me while I was in the hospital asking me questions. It was a few weeks before I felt recovered.

KLM19 · 25/08/2022 14:24

Thanks @Mariposista very kind 😘 Husband is nightshift works 70 hours a week driving HGVs so not an option for help as he needs his sleep and we need the money in this current moment as does everyone...

Mum had helped the first day but is currently not well so can't help now.

@Ponderingwindow my god that's bloody awful!!! Had I not been lying down I think I would have passed out.. I was sick a few times with the pain...

Your work sounds like mine at times! Terrible you had to return so prompt especially with that happening... 😖

Oh, I no longer work there. Used them for the experience on my CV when I was young and starting out and traded them in for a much saner work environment. Still demanding, but not hospital bed demanding.
