My apologies, I have posted on the health board but thought I might get more people seeing this on Chat. I am a health care professional but this is not my area of expertise.
My 25 year old son has been generally unwell for the last couple of years. Abdominal pain, fatigue, bowels issues, rectal bleeding (probably from haemorrhoids), mouth ulcers and nausea. He had a colonoscopy last December to rule out ulcerative colitis/Crohn’s/bowel cancer after a positive calprotectin and is currently awaiting a gastro referral with a provisional diagnosis of severe IBS.
He had some blood tests 6 months ago privately as he was anxious and couldn’t get a GP appointment and everything was ok apart from mild neutropenia (1.72, sorry can’t remember the units but I know normal is >2).
He’s still waiting for gastro and feeling worse so had the bloods repeated and his neutrophils have now dropped to 1.37.
Dr Google obviously now has him convinced he has something serious like lymphoma but I’m aware there are other more benign causes.
Should we be contacting his NHS GP to arrange further testing? If so how urgently? he’s staying with me at the moment but his GP is in London and it’s extremely difficult to get an appointment.
