Smart phones in films..

Went to see Fisherman's Friends 2 today. And they all have phones that went out in the early noughties. Despite being set after 2010. Is there a reason for this or is it to make them look more like country bumpkins?!!

It's the same in a lot of US crime dramas.

Phones 10 years behind what is current and if they show a screen it doesn't look like any display I've ever seen.

I wonder if there's a legal reason they can't show someone with an iPhone or a similar Android?

I imagine it's to not give phone manufacturers free advertising/ product placement. Also possible so the film can't be aged as easily, like if it they used a new model that became iconic, then in 10-20 years the film would seem "so early 20's"

Off topic but, without spoilers, is it good? I loved the first film!

It's really slow to get going, but once it dies it's ok. Not as good as the first. But I did enjoy singing along to Wellerman during the closing credits. Disappointed that my favourite bride only appeared once though. 🤓🤓

Oh, yes, we always warble tunelessly along to the first one when we watch the DVD. I've got the CD soundtrack as well. I actually have a large collection of sea shanties on CD and the Fisherman's Friends film version is by far the best 'Drunken Sailor' I have heard. Because it's so well known, a lot of shantyman groups mix it up in the interests of novelty, so an honest, traditional rendition is a breath of fresh air.

I didn't get an iPhone until 2012 - was using Nokias until then.

@Antarcticant I prefer the version by the Yetties. Was disappointed that 'Bread and fishes wasn't sung especially as the story was explained!
