My boyfriend and I are going to visit his aunt in Carrick on Shannon later in the year, but are proposing to stay in separate accommodation (aunt lives in a one bedroom flat and we prefer our own space). We are intending to go for three nights, subject to flights, availability etc.
Please can anyone recommend somewhere to stay and also some good places to eat, as we are planning to take his aunt out a couple of times. We have a healthy budget, but are looking for something characterful, rather than a 'luxury' chain hotel. Somewhere near the river/town centre would be good, as we won't have our own transport.
