Starting school reassurance please

My son is starting reception September (he’s been in the nursery 2hrs a day already & a private wrap around)

Im worried about 2 specific things, 1. That he won’t manage the canteen - at home he’s extremely fussy and will only eat 3 meals but in private nursery he ate whatever was put in front of him. I’m putting him in for dinners as I’m hoping this continue but I’m worried about him having to select a food as he doesn’t think he likes anything.

2, he can’t wipe his own bottom I’ve been trying for ages but he just won’t. Up to now he’s not been in for long days so just doesn’t poo in school but I’m worried he will need to with longer days. What age do most kids master this?

With dinners... talk to him and select his meal with him beforehand. (We always had to preorder but I know some schools they chose on the day).

He’ll figure out lunch, all the other reception kids will be new to it and he won’t be the only picky one. If you’re worried about him going hungry then give him a big breakfast and send a filling snack for break if you’re allowed- our school insists on fruit but for example, a banana is a lot more filling than a handful of grapes. Also bring a snack with you to pick up. If he really hates it then presumably you can switch to packed lunches unless it’s a very particular private school but at least you would have given it a go.

No idea on the toilet stuff sorry, DD was doing it completely by herself from about 3 and a half. We used wet wipes initially, and from around 3 I made sure she always attempted it herself first and wouldn’t just do it for her, but would help if she couldn’t quite get clean on her own.
