TFL Apple Pay question

Hi, we’re going to London for the day tomorrow & my husband has just discovered he’s lost his wallet. All cards have been cancelled. I only have a debit card, no credit cards. If we both have the same debit card linked to Apple Pay, will we both be able to use it on our phones to touch in and out on the tube? Or will it not allow the exact same card details to be used at the exact same time? I’ve googled but can’t find an answer and the TFL help page takes up to 10 days to respond! Can anyone help? Thanks!

I don't think you can both use the same card.

You’re technically not allowed to do that, but it’s probably going to work at the barriers.

Probably easiest to use your card to buy him a paper travel card.

check on the apple pay app as to exactly what the account details are. this might sound weird, but my barclays app works in a similar way to apple pay. I have linked a debit card to it, but the actual contactless mobile account details within the app are different from the card, almost as if the app has created a new (imaginary) card. I only found this out after using the app and the physical card on tfl as if they were interchangable, which they aren't!

so if it may be that different "imaginary" contactless mobile card details are held for each of you IYSWIM.

Thanks everyone, appreciate you taking the time to respond. I rather stupidly hadn’t thought of buying a paper ticket. I’ll check it out when we get there tomorrow.
