Do evening guests at weddings wear clothes that are more “evening” and less “wedding”?

We have an invitation to a evening reception at a country house hotel. It’s been at least 10 years since I went to a wedding. I think in the day it’s more linen and silk flowery spring colours etc but in the evening do people wear clothes more suited to an evening out?

I would be inclined to wear what I would wear to a "smart" evening out, but always have in the back of my mind what people who have been there all day would be wearing.
So, if invited to a wedding in the day I would likely have a dress and co-ordinating or matching jacket, whereas in the evening I'd not worry about the jacket, for example, but I'd still expect to be as smart as the day time guests are once they'd taken off their jackets.

So my dh would wear a suit and tie as a day guest but might wear an open necked shirt as an evening guest.......looking like some of the evening guests might look by then.
