WWYD? Starting new school

We are relocating and dc is set to start a new school in year 2.

Completion and exchange was meant to happen this month but isn't going to happen and will more than likely be 1-2 weeks in to September, after term starts but this obviously isn't guaranteed.

DC still has their old school place and both schools know what's going on.

Would you send your child back to their old school just for a few weeks?

I don't even know if I'm allowed to not send them in but I'm starting to think that they've said their goodbyes and we've done a lot of talking about moving schools and making new friends etc.
I'm worried it'll be more unsettling for them if they do go back there for a short time.

We've looked in to one of us renting somewhere up there so they can start on the 1st but it doesn't really work with our jobs. Also anything short term to rent is very expensive.

WWYD?

What does your daughter think?

justasmalltownmum · 23/08/2022 19:29

I would move them

You say renting somewhere short term doesn't work with your job so presumably keeping them home wouldn't work either?

AYearOfCushions · 23/08/2022 19:36

Sorry, relocating two hours away from where we live now.

Childcare not an issue with my job as its home based business but not something I can run from a rented properly/holiday let type place. Same for DH

Send them to new school or, if you can't make that work, just keep them off school for a week or two. Assuming it is only a week or two.

You should check with your new school that they are ok to hold a place. They won't hold it indefinitely.

I’d get an Airbnb in the new place and let them start new school
