Has anyone bought a Next sofa in the last year?

We went to a few places recently, for a new sofa. Liked the Highback Gosford in Next. All ready to order, but DH looked at reviews for Next sofas today and they are awful.
Was just wondering if anyone had bought one recently enough and was it ok? Issues seem to be with cushions slipping, puckering material etc, poor quality.

"Has anyone bought a Next sofa in the last year?"

Loads of people. It's a massive nationwide chain store.

😂
If you read beyond the title you will see I am asking for feedback, if you have actually bought one.

We got our Next sofas last year @JollyJunee. They’re almost a year old now and seem ok. We went for foam filled as we had a bad experience with a fibre filled sofa from Sofology.

The fabric (fine chenille) on ours seems fine so far. My only complaint is that ours have cushions over the armrests which I think we may need to get refilled at some point as they’re already feeling a bit flat.

I suppose it’s luck of the draw based on which sofa style and which fabric you go for.

I sold my Gosford sofa less than six months after buying it. It was

  1. Bloody Uncomfortable.

  2. Badly made: the cushion indents stayed and would not pop back up for love nor money.

I have a lovely M and S sofa now.

JollyJunee · 23/08/2022 15:00

Thanks Work2live, we were looking at the tweedy fabric. The sofa is quite soft, so I’m a bit worried about that now. It’s such a big purchase. Good that yours seems ok.

I bought sofas from Next about 10 years ago. Seemed good to start with, but very quickly sagged and the cushions always looked really untidy no matter how much I plumped them up. We did end up keep them for quite a few years, but they were only fit for the dump by the time we got rid. I wouldn't buy from Next again.

JollyJunee · 23/08/2022 15:11

That seems to be what people are complaining of, confusedlots. Back to the drawing board.

@JollyJunee We have one that arrived a few weeks ago, Parker in a tweedy blend fabric and we love it, no complaints. My parents bought sofas from next over 15 years ago and they’re still in reasonable condition, they are changing them now but have lasted really well. I know others who have also bought from next and been really happy with the sofas

Is the one you’ve seen in store fibre filled? The one we bought (Blakely, I think it’s actually been discontinued now) was available in foam and in fibre.

After owning a fibre filled sofa that was like a sack of spuds after 6 months, we went for foam this time.

They do have a mixture of them in store to sit on - at least they did at the store near us. If you’ve said it’s very soft I’d be surprised if the one you’ve sat on is foam-filled. They usually feel relatively firm and supportive, but still comfortable!

Scarletpetunias · 23/08/2022 15:33

I have next sofas in two rooms, both foam fillled and they have held their shape really well. One is over 12 years old now and still comfortable and smart looking.

I’ve never had a fabric filled sofa but I always think the look a bit saggy and uncomfortable, even in the showroom!

EsmaCannonball · 23/08/2022 15:41

No, but my brother bought a couple about 6 months ago and says he wouldn't be buying from them again. He's already had to have a couple of cushions replaced and he's not happy with the quality. His previous sofas were from M&S and he wishes he hadn't got rid of them.

RedRiverShore2 · 23/08/2022 15:49

I bought ours just over 2 years ago in Next Clearance for a very good price, I have been happy with it, the tweedy fabric hasn't worn and the cushions seem ok, it is probably about the same quality as similar priced sofas from elsewhere, non sale price was about £1k

ineedmoresleepnow · 23/08/2022 15:52

We bought three six years ago and I have no complaints. They still look good, a Tweedy fabric, haven't sagged at all and still are very comfortable

chipshopElvis · 23/08/2022 16:02

Yes about 18months ago. It's in the kitchen so doesn't have heavy use but it's great so far.

MogHog · 23/08/2022 16:47

The thing with Next is that they have such good customer service with the sofas. Your frame is under warranty ( apart from wear and tear ) for 10 years and the fabric/fillings for 3 ( again apart from normal wear and tear) so if you do have issues with say cushions going flat as long as you are looking after your sofa by regular dressing ( turning and plumping the cushions) then you can call it in for a technician visit and the techs are really very fair with their reports too.

MogHog · 23/08/2022 16:49

Forgot to add we have a Gosford and it's still in great condition and we love it.

MrsMoastyToasty · 23/08/2022 17:05

We bought the Next Farrell design (it's been discontinued ) in tweedy mauve fabric about 4 years ago. It's gone bobbly along the seat cushions. The frame is fine and it's comfortable .

We’ve got a fairly new next sofa. It’s fine. Good value for the money. It isn’t quite as comfy as our other main sofa but that was a very expensive custom built one from a furniture shop in high Wycombe. It’s very old now and needs replacing but still comfy and we’re hanging onto it for now as we need to save for new windows first!

nicknamehelp · 23/08/2022 17:28

Had ours a couple of months all fine so far we loved next and all the options so could get exactly what we wanted.

BashfulClam · 23/08/2022 17:47

Getting Rid of mind (tweedy fabric) the cushions keep slipping and the one at the back doesn’t hold its shape. A month to go and I’ll have a new one.

@BashfulClam where are you getting your new one from?

BashfulClam · 23/08/2022 17:58

@TooMuchToDoTooLittleInclination Dfs where I got the last two before the next one. Never had a problem with them so far (sofa lol)

The incredible thing about facts, is that they are pretty difficult to argue with.

"Loads of people" is the correct answer.
