Is everyone on holiday more/longer this year?

I mean holidays away, not holidays from work/school.

I am freelance and I always take the first 2-3 weeks of August off unless I’m on an actual contact, because it’s dead. No enquiries, negotiation, overtures happen in the first half of August. Usually by the time I get back to it (around this time) there are some emails to return , queries, stuff to do.

It is DEAD. I logged in on Thursday and Friday, found nothing and thought “meh, they’ll all be coming back at the weekend”. Apparently not. Sat down with proper clothes and an insulated coffee mug in the office today. Still nothing. No one on posting on work socials. The three people I rang not picking up.

It’s spooky, and I’m sitting here covertly timewasting like I used to in Classics lessons when the sun was shining.

Where IS everyone? Is it post covid something?

I remember reading an article about 2022 travel and various travel agents were quoted saying that people were booking longer/more expensive/more adventurous holidays than pre-Covid. I personally know one family where the mum took a sabbatical from work and they are travelling for a month, several others have gone on long haul adventures and others have been away two or even three times over the holidays. Hardly anyone has been around all summer!

Blimey. Okay then. I pay attention to the wrong stuff obviously. 😁

I might book a haircut while I can.
