What time does the typical office day start in New York ?

I know American schools start earlier than uk but wondered about a corporate office setting. Is it likely to be 8 or 9 or earlier ?

The New York office for the company I work for works a standard 9 - 5.30 but I assume it depends on the industry

It seemed like most offices started then too.

I worked 9-5 in finance, although if you work in financial markets you'd usually start at 8.

My colleagues tend to be closer to 8 in the majority- some will be 7am (but normally at home) on occasion dependant on international colleagues/projects

When I used to go to Chicago on business, everyone seemed to start around 7 and finish about 3-4. They thought 7pm was very late to go out for an evening meal as most people were in bed by 9/10.

On the west coast an 8am start is typical people tend to finish by 4.30 and eat early. I was shocked that restaurants are mostly closing at 9 do you need to be seated by 7 - friends would suggest meeting at 6pm for dinner, unheard of in the U.K. unless you have toddlers
