What's the best wedding gift you got?

The daughter of a family member is getting married at the end of September. We're close in age, get on really well and I want to get her and her husband a great gift.

If I were just buying for her it would be so easy, but obviously as a wedding gift I want it to be something both of them enjoy.

Can anyone tell me what gifts they loved getting, or any that really were no use? Budget is probably £150 as I'm also paying for some little elements in the wedding (nothing massive but enough I don't want to go mad).

Definitely a le creuset pot, we got a lovely larger, flatter one for our wedding but we're also still using a smaller one my mum got as a wedding present 40 years ago!

We were sent a beautiful blanket by colleagues in the US, I'd never spend that much on a blanket but it's lovely and warm and used all the time!

For us, it was a beautiful custom oval platter with our names on the edge.

But I agree with what some people have mentioned that a good picnic bag with equipmemt is always a good one and gets used.

A really big, luxurious blanket is good too.

Our dinner service and crystal and linen that went with it. I use them all and it feels like a gift of love from many people.

A wooden blanket box.
It's been at the foot of our bed ever since, except for when we had to move it for a cot. F

We got a secret escapes voucher for £150 which was great - we topped it up with cash to book a boutique night away for our first anniversary (more expensive than we'd ever spend). Otherwise a bed tray has been great and unexpected, and actually it wasnt £150 but we got a lovely decoration thing that we hang on our Christmas tree now which i love unpacking each year!

My favourite gifts were things we practically needed (wanted) then.
Someone did some work in the little garden we had in our flat, and gave us some plants. Someone else who was a flooring fitter, replaced the floor in our kitchen. Someone made our wedding cake as their gift. Someone else lent us their rather nice car to save us hiring cars. Someone else did the music etc.
No, we haven't got any of them anymore, but those are the gift I remember most fondly.

My cheese grater. A nicer one than we'd have bought that just this week broke. 22 years ! I'd have loved the picnic blanket and hamper though if doing it again

A tool kit, it’s been so well used during the last 27 years.
A clock that lives on the fireplace and although we’ve moved a few times no fire looks complete without it.

TheOtherWoman2 · 22/08/2022 21:25

Good sharp set of chefs knives

My fave was tickets to the crystal maze experience!

Ours was a bit of kitchenware with a note explaining that they got one for their wedding day, and still used it many years later, and they hoped we would have as many happy years as them. The kitchenware was lovely, but the note had me in tears.

imnotthatkindofmum · 22/08/2022 21:31

A tent! We had a wedding list at Argos though so we only put crazy stuff on it that we actually wanted like the tent, axle stands, socket set! The tent was the best at the time but we do still have the axle stands 17 years on!

faffadoodledo · 23/08/2022 08:09

We got a picnic hamper @Mortonpup and it quickly became a makeshift sewing basket!

The best gift that we received was a set of decent Sheffield stainless steel cutlery. It's been in daily use for 44 years and will probably outlive us!

gogohmm · 23/08/2022 08:29

An insulated back pack/picnic set. Still in use 24 years later minus the husband

DelilahBucket · 23/08/2022 08:32

A white rose bush, the gift that keeps on giving. We also got an engraved wooden wine box with various wine bottle utensils in and a nice bottle of red. We actually saved the wine for our first anniversary.

Bit weird of someone to buy you a gift from the company you own @jaynelittle Wink

Ariela · 25/08/2022 16:38

An apple tree, a pear tree and a walnut tree. The apple is a bit hit and miss but the pears are consistently good as are the walnut provided we beat the squirrels
