Delaying period on microgynon - help please!

Hello , I wondered if anybody has done this before . I’m totally frustrated and stressed out with lack of correct information and being passed from pillar to post for basic medical care.

heres the issue

terrible frequent ruination , massive disruption to every day life - can not go anywhere with no toilet now so nice walks and things are off limits , pressurenin pelvic area I went to the nurse for my smear test hoping she would at least examine me as I was desperate , lack of sleep due to waking for the toilet and tender from the constant weeing and wiping , sore hands from excessive hand washing (combined with dermatitis) unfortunately period started the morning I was due my smear so the nurse wouldn’t touch me and wouldn’t examine either , I explained I had sn upcoming appointment with the gp again for the urinary problems and nurse said gp could do the smear test for me while she did a speculum exam Gp diagnosed cystocele but thinks I also have an over active bladder, she wasn’t able to do me a smear as she said she isn’t certified for this, she referred me to be seen by the continence nurse who could do the smear at the same time sd fitting a pessary and whatever else. Anyway , fast. Forward.I think I’m likely to get my period around the time of the appointment so I’ve asked what to do to delay as I’m really wanting smear done. ASAP ( aunt died aged 36 of cervical cancer so it’s always top priority and I was due it in June) I’m told this time by text message the continence team will not do a smear for me and I’ll have to re book that with a practice nurse! My problem is I habe absoloutley nobody to help me and I can only do a Monday due to it being my husbands day off , the practice rarely has any appointments on these days that are in the near future they are often months in advance I can’t really bring 3 children to that sort of appointment either and my parents work full time husbands parents aren’t around and friends all working . . I’m a bit worried because I’ve only last week just started taking pills again after the break so I’m not sure it will delay my period ? I’ve never done this before but I feel so deflated and exhausted I just want help as it’s been going on for a long time , any experience or advice appreciated. Really want to keep to my appointment but feel so stressed with being told different things. Really sorry for the massive ramble and terrible grammar x

How old are the children? Will they be back in school soon?
Other options are:
husband takes a day holiday or a morning off to care for the children or can he come home on his lunch hour one day?
Evening smear test appointment?
Smear at a sexual health clinic?
An at home test kit? they are around £25 and sounds the least stressful option tbh.

I could never delay my period on microgynon but maybe someone else on MN has been successful?

If you continuously take Microgynon without a break you should not have your period. Having said that, the first few months of doing this, many women have breakthrough bleeding which in my experience can be anything from minimal spotting to a light period. But I've also started on Microgynon after a few months break and not had any bleeding at all. So sorry to hear about the problems you are having, it sounds really difficult. As poster above has said, you can often get smears at local sexual health clinics and the hours tend to be a bit more flexible than GP so you may be able to get one on the weekend or evening. Lots of good information about the pill here on this website. Also a number to text for more information from a clinician : sh24.org.uk/contraception/compare?

Thanks so much for replying both of you . I think it’s inevitable now that I’m not going to manage to delay my period given that I just finished a break 7 days ago and my appointment is next Friday. Xx

If you just finished a break surely you have your period already?
If I’ve misunderstood, I take microgynon and always run 3 packets back to back without a break and have never had any issues or bleeding.

If you finished your pill free week 7 days ago you’ll only be on day 17 of your packet so shouldn’t be bleeding next Friday.

Also the nurse can do your smear but can’t “examine” you for urinary incontinence. That is the GPs job. Continence nurses don’t do smears either.

I appreciate it’s frustrating for you but don’t panic. Take your pill every day, have your smear next Friday and see the continence nurse and hopefully everything will get sorted.

If you finished a break 7 days ago you will have just had your period? If your appointments next week then you'll not be having a period? Are you currently taking the pill, 21 pills before break and if my calculations are correct you should have just re-started? You can take pill packs back to back so as to not have a break and / or bleed. I would also take the kids to the appointment if no other option, they'll be fine and you'll be behind the curtain anyway. Good luck!
