Do you sleep with your shoulders on your pillow

Or below?

I can't sleep (hence posting this), mostly because I can't get comfortable and it's just occured to me that I might not be resting in a comfortable pillow position. Does your neck lie on the bottom of your pillows, or does your back and shoulders?

Neck in the bottom of the pillow for me. Don't think I ever saw someone with shoulders on pillow....

Interesting! Maybe this is why I can't bloody sleep Grin I'm trying to get comfy with my shoulders below the pillow but it feels like I'm elevating too much

Sounds like your pillow is too thick.

ReeseWitherfork · 22/08/2022 02:01

I think the secret is to put your pillow in between your bottom shoulder and neck.

I.e. no shoulder on pillow but really tuck it up there to support your head!

This. But I’m a side sleeper.

RhubarbMoon · 22/08/2022 02:05

A lot of the time I find I'm not sleeping on the pillows at all. I quite like curling an arm up in the covers and using that instead.

This - I’m a side sleeper too.

I used to use a thick pillow and had my shoulders on it but now I've switched to a thinner one and have my arm beneath the pillow so im kind of resting my head on my arm with the pillow in between. Shoulders stay on the bed.

Midlifemusings · 22/08/2022 06:33

Sleeping on my back, I use a very flat pillow. Sleeping on my side I use a pillow that is thicker and that is the right thickness for my head height!

no shoulders on pillows.

CormoranStrike · 22/08/2022 06:50

I can’t sleep with a pillow at all, feels weird to me

KangarooKenny · 22/08/2022 06:51

No. Sometimes I push the pillow into my neck to get comfy.

Katkinsgreyy · 22/08/2022 08:15

I'm a back sleeper so bought a special shaped pillow to make it more comfortable.
It has a dip in the middle that my head sits in.
My shoulders aren't on the pillow

ImShrunk · 22/08/2022 08:22

Ancient wisdom says you need to sleep on your side using 4 pillows:

1 between the legs
1 to support the head
1 Under the arm you are sleeping on to raise it slightly (hand open)
1 behind you for support and to stop you tipping backwards.

This combination takes the pressure off the neck, hips and back.

This! I'm also a side sleeper. I have a thin but firm pillow in the bottom then a plump duck feather pillow on top as normal pillows end up feeling like concrete and give me a headache and neck ache.

Cloudonthemountains · 22/08/2022 11:05

I have one of these pillows:

Cant sleep on anything else. My shoulder fits perfectly under where the neck support is cut away at the bottom.

CaptainCorellisXylophone · 22/08/2022 11:09

Don't take this the wrong way, but how have you got to be an adult and not worked out pillows yet?

DahliaMacNamara · 22/08/2022 11:34

Helpfully I can't remember exactly what type of pillow I have. I thought the old one was quite good, but I replaced it with one for side sleepers from Dunelm. It has different panels in its construction, and it's not memory foam. Don't think it was that expensive, about £18 maybe, but I now have much less arm and shoulder pain when lying down. So I think I must sleep with shoulders on the pillow.

Husbands arm is my pillow...
All night...
