Variable energy rates / default tariff question

Have had a Google but I can't find the answer to this very simple question!

I am on a fixed tariff which is ending soon, so will presumably be going onto the default variable rate in the current circumstances. At the moment I pay by monthly direct debit, the same amount each month to spread the cost throughout the year. Is it somehow possible to do this on a variable tariff? Or will my payments be different every month whether I like it or not?

You will still pay a set amount per month but it may need to increase as your unit costs and standing charge will increase. The variable rate is due to increase in October but current rates are around this:

I am with BG and standard variable tariff. I pay each month by DD for the gas and electric actually consumed the previous month (submit meter readings online on last day of every month).

Is that what you're after? I like it because although bill for gas is higher in cold months, I put money aside in cheap months to cover them.

Most suppliers will look at your annual usage, cost it on the new tariff and divide by 12. So you can carry on with your current way of paying the same every month.

Prepare for an increase. And then another ...
