Is this chicken safe to eat?

I brought a chicken earlier in the week and it went straight in the freezer. My memory said the use by date was 21st Aug- hit it out last night to defrost and noticed the use by was 20th of Aug. I know that the dates have done flex and it’s not like a switch where it goes off however since I popped it in the freezer just concerned if it’ll be too frozen for me to smell even if something was off…

If it was frozen the use by is irrelevant! You froze it before the use by, so the "clock" effectively stops when you freeze it. Otherwise what would be the point of freezing?

Of course it's safe. Use it 20th August next year I'm sure you'd still survive Grin

It is absolutely fine.

You're not going to cook it from frozen though, are you, so even if you were worried (which there's no need to be - it's fine) you'll be able to smell it when it's defrosted

Use by dates are only if you've kept that chicken in the fridge( it would probably still be on today) freezing renders the date irrelevant - it was in date when you froze it so it's still in date today when you've defrosted it

Once it’s frozen the date is irrelevant, I regularly buy things just on their date and freeze - you can keep things frozen for as long as you like then.
