2nd wife inheritance

Trying to be fair.

im 2nd wife, dh has two kids in their 20s. No kids of my own.

we jointly own house, and pay equal amounts off mortgage. He put £300k deposit in.

I’ve got a house worth about 180k I rent out.

looking at wills. We originally thought we’d sort so if he went first, id get 60% of house and then buy his kids out of 40% and they’d get rest of estate.

but I’m wondering if that’s a little unfair to me? I have my own pension, a decent one, reasonable salary. Some savings. So wouldn’t be in penury.

didn’t particularly want to do a trust where I get to live in house till I die….as I don’t want them waiting till I die. But starting to think that might be best.

we are 50s and been married for years.

Why not give the first £300k to his DC and then it’s 50/50 on the rest? You might be paying 50% now but that size of initial deposit should be recognised.
