Starting perimenopause while on the pill

Interested in other women's experiences really...... I've been on the pill for years so I'm getting a daily dose of artificial hormones for 21 days out of each month. My bleeds have changed in the last few months - starting a day later than usual and getting slightly lighter. No other symptoms really other than the odd sweaty night. I'm 42. I use the Balance app to record sleep, daily activity and symptoms

How was perimenopause for you if you were on the pill at the time and what symptoms did you notice first? Thanks

I started Microgynon again at 43 to manage anxiety which worked very well. I noticed changes in breakthrough bleeds and some other peri symptoms creeping in.

I’m 46 now and recently went to the Newson Clinic to get a consultation as my GP had said I’d have to come off the pill for 6 months first which having done my research didn’t seem necessary.

I need to be emotionally balanced for the work I do and wanted to find out what my options are.

I was moved onto HRT with testosterone, it has taken a little tweaking as unfortunately the progesterone was great at helping me sleep but made me very dizzy the next day too so now I take vaginally which doesn’t give me any major side effects. It’s still early days but I’m glad I’ve started the transition. The pill worked very well for me but I always knew it was not safe long term and I also missed out on the protective aspects of HRT.

Thanks Daisy, glad to hear that HRT is going well so far. What symptoms were you having that prompted you to arranged the Newson appointment, and would you recommend them?

It was mainly breakthrough bleeding which was investigated separately, difficulty sleeping or staying asleep, brain fog, fatigue, loss of libido to name a few!

I was on my normal pill ( sorry can’t remember what it was) and then a few years ago I came on and it never stopped. Wasn’t heavy just there. In the end they sent me for a scan but everything was fine. I was for about a year. She changed me to a different pill and it has mostly stopped.

I find now that when it does break through I have hot flushes and am really tired. And then it all stops again. I asked at my last pill check how long I could continue using it and she said till I was 55.
my peep menopausal symptoms as I said before come in waves and all at once and then fade away again. No idea if this is due to me being on the pill or not. At the moment I’m not seeking further action or help for it unless it becomes constant.
