British Gas Homecare

Morning all, our BG Homecare has come up for renewal, it’s gone up lots (we got a ‘deal’ last year following a complaint but it’s too much). Has anyone used any other ‘Homecare’ type of scheme that they’d recommend?
Thanks

We don't have one just a local plumber as and when needed, much cheaper in my experience.

We swapped about 3 years ago to HomeTree. Definitely worth it. They've been very good.

We also use a local heating guy much much cheaper and use better quality components, we do have the house care electrics etc on our household policy which is way cheaper. Also last time I used bg they booked the annual service in for 3 months late then 2 days beforehand rescheduled for 5 months later

I phoned them and told them I was not renewing because it was too expensive they reduced it by £300. Maybe give them a call and see what they can do.

How old is the boiler OP?

we had BG homecare on a 25+ year old Ideal boiler.
when we replaced it with an Ideal Combi, we cancelled the Homecare as the boiler came with a 10year warranty.

Bluevelvetsofa · 21/08/2022 08:37

I thought the warranty only was valid if the boiler was regularly serviced.

maddiemookins16mum · 21/08/2022 08:58

The boiler is under 4 years old (has been serviced). It’s more the ‘peace of mind’ aspect (BG came and sorted an electrical issue last year plus we like the drains cover having had a nightmare problem in a previous house).

I'd recommend Homeserve. They send out engineers far quicker than BG, I've found

NanTheWiser · 21/08/2022 22:19

When my BG Homecare went up a few years ago, I opted to pay a £60 excess on any call outs which halved the monthly costs. I have had to have a few call outs, but being 75, I need the peace of mind. Might consider another supplier if costs escalate again, though.

We’ve used Hometree for a few years now and we’ve been happy had to call them out a few times. Easy to arrange services. Much cheaper.
