I’m booked in for this to be fitted under GA next week and I’m shitting myself and tempted to back out. I’ve been waiting months. GP couldn’t get it in and I had some bad injuries after childbirth so went for GA.

It isn’t a contraception thing but for heavy periods after two DCs. Ended up with iron transfusion and take tranexamic acid but they’re still not light. I’ve taken Primrose Oil for years due to bad PMT. Stopped taking the pill at 20 because it made me mentally unwell and weight gain etc. have never touched hormonal contraception since.

I don’t know whether to risk it. My MH took a dive last year but I’m in a good place now and healthy and fit, iron is ok but on the low side. Any thoughts most welcome. I’m nearly 39 so also conscious of peri menopause.

I had my first one put in over two years ago, at 55. I've been absolutely fine and wish I'd done it a good 15 years earlier.

My first was amazing, no periods whatsoever. My second is good but I do have some light bleeding, though nothing compared to like before I had it fitted.

Interestingly my GP's no longer fit them and I had to go to the sexual health clinic. This was post first lockdown but before the world went back to normal again.

The nurse who fitted it said that they no longer fit them for "non-contraceptive reasons", but advised me that they were a wonderful method of birth control should I be considering having an affair.

I agreed that yes, I suppose I could have an affair and she fitted it happily. I often wonder how she justified it in my medical notes 🙄😆

This has popped up again so to update! It went great, I had about 10 days of barely there spotting and that was that. No periods, no hormonal differences in mood or anything. Only wish I’d done it sooner!!
