I just cleared out my most used daily shoulder bag and have tried to not put back the 101 things i think i might need but have failed miserably.
It houses makeup,wipes,pen,plasters ,tissues,sanitary towel,sunglasses,travel sewing kit,gum,mints,painkillers,carrier bags.notebook .safety pins,handcream,suncream and perfume.
Is this what everyone has in theirs or is too much?

Mine has everything yours has except sewing kit and safety pins. I have never come across a time I have needed a safety pin in 35 years of life and sewing I can do at home 😅

I also have a charging bank in my bag as my whole life is in my phone so if it dies, I'd be in trouble!

I empty my handbags after each use and only pack what I think I’ll need for that particular day/trip. Even then, it would typically be a much condensed version of your list, limited to make up (mascara and lipstick only), sunglasses/umbrella, purse and phone.

Out of interest, when have you ever had occasion to use a travel sewing kit??

itsnotmeitisactuallyyou · 20/08/2022 21:26

I have never been without a safety pin and sewing kit or at least a needle thread and scissors since i had an incident where two buttons popped off on my shirt dress while in a meeting, luckily it was winter and i had a scarf

Purse, keys, ear bud things, power bank, fan, lip balm, pens, notebook, hand cream.

ThisIsAddiction · 20/08/2022 21:40

I have a handbag liner so just pull that out between bags when I swap.

in there is probably half a pharmacy, purse, hairbrush, pocket sized sun cream to stop DH turning into an angry tomato, folding shopping bag, tissues, the motherlode of receipts, various hair clips, my favourite lip gloss, radar key, AirPods, wired air phones in case I forgot to charge the latter and my car keys.

it’s not even that big a bag…😩🙄

Have you ever needed a sewing kit again though? Does seem a bit like overkill to me,

The only things I always have in my bag are purse, phone, hairbrush, powerbank and a lipstick. Usually also have a plaster or two, paracetamol, a pen and maybe a carrier bag.

optimisticdogmum · 20/08/2022 21:51

I used to carry a huge bag with everything I could possibly need ..... nowadays its phone (which has everything on i need, address book, diary etc) a slim purse, keys, lippy

Find it totally liberating

Crayfishforyou · 20/08/2022 21:53

Lip balm
spf 50
bank cards
keys
water bottle
socks (no idea why)
lipstick/gloss
hand cream
tester size perfume
dog poop bags
hair bobbles
sunglasses
gum
air pods

Violettaa · 20/08/2022 21:55

Purse, cardholder, keys.

Increasingly I'm forgoing the cardholder and relying on my phone to pay.

Other stuff only if I actually need it for a specific thing that day (egg iPad for various work things, make up if I'm going out in the evening so will want a top up).

Badger1970 · 20/08/2022 21:58

Half the house judging by the weight of it.

Purse (large continental wallet style). Glasses, sunglasses, keys to my Dads flat. Bag of painkillers/meds. Lipbalm. Hairbands. Dog pooh bags (fecking things are everywhere). Hand cream. Suncream. Couple of spare masks. Handgel. Work keys. Pen and notepad. Numerous receipts, appointment cards and vouchers all scrunched up in the bottom.

clary · 20/08/2022 22:04

Very interesting what other people have in their bags!

Mine has:
purse
phone x 2 (work and mine)
house keys
car key
foldaway shopping bag stolen from dd's UCAS fair
ibuprofen
plasters
safety pins
numerous pens
emery board

I would never be without the emery board and the pens (unless really just nipping to the pub with purse keys phone) but rarely take a hairbrush or lippy. Never a powerbank as I don't have one.

clary · 20/08/2022 22:06

oooh lip balm as well of course

Lipsandlashes · 20/08/2022 22:06

Purse, car key, house keys, AirPods, work lanyard, powder compact, two lipsticks, iPhone.

sanityisamyth · 20/08/2022 22:09

I don't have one. I leave the house with only my keys and phone.

QueSyrahSyrah · 20/08/2022 22:16

Typically;

Card wallet
Phone
Work on-call phone
Keys
A comb
A few hair bands
Lipstick & mascara (pointless, I'm never inclined to top up make up)
Cigarettes & lighter
Tissues
Sanitary towels / tampons
A couple of lemon sherbets
Random bits of paper / coupons / receipts
Fluff

beanbagpotato · 20/08/2022 22:19

I'm the same as @sanityisamyth since covid. Keys, phone & lip balm in my pocket. If I think I need anything else for the day I grab a light jacket for extra pockets!
My glove box however … yeah you don't want to be opening that these days! Safety pins, hair clips, make-up,wipes, tissues, suncream, chocolate bars, mints, chewie, cereal bars, battery pack, debit card, cash. I could probably survive for a week in the car!

bippityboppity87 · 20/08/2022 22:23

Funny enough, I just did the same thing yesterday. Cleared everything out and put my back pack in the wash

Now I have:

Bus pass
Debit card
Small handheld torch
Face mask (just in case)
Small change, couple of ££'s, 20p, 50p
Pocket tissues
Compact folding shopping bag
Umbrella
Mini deodorant
Keys
Sunglasses
Hand sanitiser

bippityboppity87 · 20/08/2022 22:24

Oh comb too, forgot about that

Perdita68 · 20/08/2022 22:24

Keys, comb, purse, phone, deodorant, cooling spray, eye shadow, mascara, perfume, tissues. Plus lots of paperwork relating to my job

silverclock222 · 20/08/2022 22:27

Lipstick, house keys and mobile phone. Occasionally a small diary and umbrella.
