Need a gp

Why are simple things so difficult. All I want is a gp. I need to get a blood test done so need a gp. But they are asking for photo ID it says it on their website I tried 3 different surgery and they all say the same. I don't have a passport or driving licence. I know they are good for ID but I can't afford to get one. I have no one who can sign for me . And why should I have to. Just so I can have a gp. It should be a very simple thing but its not

Have you explained to them that you don't have photo ID? Surely they should except alternative ID like a birth certificate along with another document?

They ask for photo ID along with birth certificates. It said the same for 2 GPS on their website. The other GPS I'm out of catchment area . I guess I will have to try and ring then on Monday. Weather I get through is another thing

ThIs will be a very usual thing - just call and ask.

Leave it a while after they've opened so you don't get stuck in the rush of people looking for same day appointments.

You won't be the first or the last! Why don't you just pop in to reception and ask?

SuperNoodle87 · 20/08/2022 21:52

They can't refuse to sign you up without ID, you need to go in and speak to the receptionists

OhNoWhatYouGonnaDo · 20/08/2022 22:24

Insisting on proof of address is against the rules, as it excludes homeless/insecurely housed people. Why are they asking for ID - to prove eligibility for NHS care? If it's that, there should be ways of checking that without needing photo ID...

HideTheCroissants · 20/08/2022 22:35

They can’t demand ID. www.healthwatch.co.uk/advice-and-information/2019-01-23/registering-your-gp-understanding-your-rights

Go in armed with this info.

Thank you. Its a right pain because you register on line.

But anyway if its not allowed why do thru have it written on their site thsg you must have photo ID. It's so annoying

Photo ID will be the preferred option but they will also have an 'Alternative ID' process.

It will be something like Birth certificate and a utility bill dated within the last 3 months.
