What’s happening in home care?

I worked in home care, years ago, and it was a state then. We did get a small fuel allowance between jobs, but it wasn’t much then. What’s happening now fuel has rocketed in price? Any home carers now who know?

I did home care for 20-odd years. My friend still works as a community carer, gets 30p per mile petrol, and they send her all over the place with 10 minutes (unpaid) in between jobs

People are calling in sick because they can’t afford petrol… it’s a shit show! Thankfully some local authorities are starting to pay for travel time which is helping make things less fucking awful

The unpaid time between calls really stung, especially when you were stuck in traffic.

I also worked in community care up until 2015. Everyone I kept in touch with from the agency have also given up community care - most are working in care homes for a slightly lower hourly rate, but in actual terms earning more as minimal petrol/car costs & no unpaid drives between each call.
