Birthday present for 11 year old

After some suggestions for a birthday present for an 11 year old girl. I’m her godmother, and don’t have kids of my own. She has asked for books which is lovely, but wanted to get her a surprise too. What on earth are kids into these days? I feel so old!

That’s a good idea!

should add that she really likes science, reading the Greek myths (!!), swimming, The Beatles and colourful clothes.

Another good idea. Might save that for Christmas!

Any sort of funky stationery from Paperchase or Tiger goes down a storm here.

Carrieonmywaywardsun · 20/08/2022 18:10

A colourful tote bag? Versatile for most personalities

Beamur · 20/08/2022 18:12

Has she read the Percy Jackson books? You could get her a 'camp half blood' t-shirt.
Or some 'this book belongs to' stickers for her books. Waterstones do a range of book related goodies - like clip on book lights for reading, badges (Etsy also worth a look) cool bookmarks, etc.
Games like Exploding kittens or Throw throw burrito might go down well too.

bravotango · 20/08/2022 18:13

Something nice from Oliver Bonas - will have nice packaging and feel grown up! They have hair clips etc, little bags etc

AdInfinitum12 · 20/08/2022 18:28

A nice tote bag, you could put the books in and wrap together? A bookmark, Etsy has some great homemade ones, you could find one for The Beatles etc. A nice journal?

junebirthdaygirl · 20/08/2022 18:31

My gd is 11 and like those lsurround lights for her bedroom and any kind of stationery. She could spend ages in a stationery shop. Loves fancy pens.

Ohsugarhoneyicetea · 20/08/2022 18:33

Mine wanted an Oculus Quest!

Needmorelego · 20/08/2022 18:34

Just ask her parents.
Some 11 year olds want Primark vouchers and Hunger Games books.
Some want Sylvanian Families and Enid Blyton.

12roundsofwhitelowfatspread · 20/08/2022 18:58

Has she got the Adam Kay books if she likes science?

Depending on her other interests, book ideas:

  • Pages & Co series

  • Murder most unladylike series

  • Land of stories series

Otherwise how about a tie dye kit / home made voucher to take her to the science museum / grown up art supplies?

AmberGer · 20/08/2022 19:01

That's a great idea too. There is a paperchase close to work, I'll take a look tomorrow

Stationery - paperchase

My friends daughter would love a Primark voucher so can feel grown up and choose clothing , her sister would be wanting the Slip silk hair bands or a bangle with her initial on

The grown up Lego would go horn well

Needmorelego · 21/08/2022 10:50

Why "grown up" Lego?
She's 11. Get one aimed at 11 year olds.
(I got the Friends Canal Boat for my 47th birthday)

GelatoQueen · 21/08/2022 10:59

A beautiful book buddy or book sleeve from Etsy. There are loads available at different prices and a handmade book mark that means something to her. I find they are great for protecting books

sashh · 21/08/2022 11:14

I don't know if girls are still into them but I got my nieces charm bracelets, which meant I could buy charms for birthdays / Xmas.

If she is in to science then the science museum shop has loads of things.

I have also been known to approach girls of a similar age to ask for help, if they are in a group or with a parent, I would ask the parent first.

Jesslequest · 21/08/2022 12:41

I have just ordered a resin jewellery/ Keyring making kit for my 11year old for her birthday.
She also loves air dry clay for modelling. I usually buy squishmallows for her similar aged friends for birthday presents (Claire’s do a great selection)

AuntieN · 22/08/2022 15:45

Thanks all!

I had asked her parents, but they just said books... In the end we bought some books, and also some crafting bits and pieces. Hopefully she will like it.
