What characters do your 4-5year olds love?

I'm a teacher in Reception and I used to be well on it with who was popular but my DD is older now and I have found over the last couple of years, there are so many more platforms that children watch things on rather than just good old CBeebies and I have lost track a little!

We always ask the children for their favourite character at the start of September so we can label their things and personalise them. Sometimes children just look at me blankly and so I have to give them a few suggestions to get them started. Can you please let me know who your Reception age kids love or what programmes/films/youtube etc stuff they like watching so I have a point of reference? Thanks!

Bluey and Barbie seem to be top at the moment for mine but she’s very fickle so it’ll probably be different by September 🤦🏻‍♀️

I teach year 1 and my kids are reception and Year 2.

I don't think there are favourite characters in the same way because of all the platforms like you say. Maybe Paw Patrol as a generic for the boys but it's really tricky. My DD loves Bluey but some of her friends have never seen it because they don't watch iPlayer or Disney+. Some of DS's like Spider-Man and other marvel things but DS hasn't got a clue because he doesn't watch them. He'd choose Numberblocks!

I'd say from that perspective 'trends' have changed a lot in the last few years because they all watch such varied things. Sorry, no help!!

My 4 year old loves Thomas the tank engine, Paddington bear, chuggington, alpha and number blocks.

Bluey/ paw patrol / duggee

My reception starter loves disney+ so anything spiderman/hulk/black panther. Among his friends hey duggee is still popular, chuggington, bluey, harry potter, pj masks, paw patrol. I find those with older siblings will be into "older" stuff like superheroes as they watch them together, those without tend to like younger stuff so more cbeebies stuff.

Mine is about to start reception - Thomas, duggee, paw patrol, fireman Sam.

Sonic. Numberblocks. Alphablocks. Numberjacks. Spiderman. Batman. Vlad and Nikki. Ellie Sparkles. Wendy from Wendy’s Pretend Play. Minions. Captain America. Hulk. Iron Man. OmNom. AumSum.

Anyone from Cars, Toy Story, Frozen, Moana, Encanto.

They’d also gravitate towards animals for things like labels/pegs: sharks, dinosaurs, whales, spiders, bats, kittens.

My going into Reception spring born 4 year old loves Peppa fucking Pig still, I’d hoped she’d have grown out of it by now.

They also like Paw Patrol, Gabby’s Doll House, Puppy Dog Pals and adore Bluey.

Paw Patrol, Thomas the Tank Engine, Blippi, Titipo.

For my 4yo DD it’s Bluey, Barbie, Frozen, Paw Patrol, Spiderman, Minnie Mouse

She also loves any generic unicorn or fairy
