Flies everywhere!!

Has anyone noticed there are soooo many flies around this year! Any good ways of keeping them out especially the kitchen where I don't want to use spray.

This is absolutely disgusting so only use it as a last resort; but I hang a fly trap made from a plastic bottle near the back door to attract them to that. There's a few inches of water in it and cat food smeared around the entrance holes plus a dollop in the water as bait. I cut some small X shaped holes and bend the plastic inwards so they can get in but not out. It catches about a litre of flies in a year and then we all argue about who's turn it is to dispose of it.
