Nice afternoon/evening and with children in the house no chance of romantic date out to enjoy dinner together.

DH has offered to cook and we can eat in the garden so looking for inspiration…

What’s your favourite starter/main combo…
DH is hinting for steak but feels a bit uninventive!!

I don’t get this opportunity often so as fancy as possible as long as they sell the ingredients in Tesco’s

Seafood risotto.

Salmon with crab and tarragon sauce, crushed new potatoes and asparagus for main.

AnchorWHAT · 19/08/2022 14:32

Tonight we are having smoked salmon fishcakes for starters with home made tartare sauce and salad followed by cheese and onion quiche served with minted baby potatoes and green beans from the garden sprinkled with toasted sesame seeds and a dash of lemon juice. Dessert will be strawberries, raspberries and cherries with fresh cream.

Frozen half duck with pancakes.
Spring onions and cucumber..
Spring rolls and a bag of prawn crackers.

Stuffed dormouse followed by Stargazy Pie. That should be interesting. You did cross out Tesci
Failing that I do agree either salmon or chicken with a tarragon sauce..

Play to his strengths, what does he do really well?

I'd go for fish of some kind of fish. Maybe this tandoori seabass or tuna steak.

Cas112 · 19/08/2022 17:11

Lasagna

Crunchymum · 19/08/2022 17:12

Let him decide. Takes the responsibility away from you completely (sometimes I find having to meal plan / shop is as much work as the actual cooking)

Tell him no steak though.

MrsOwainGlyndŵr · 19/08/2022 17:14

Steak and chips with peppercorn sauce!

sendwineandastraw · 19/08/2022 17:16

Thanks for all the suggestions…

The weather changed so we forgot the starter and changed white wine and sunshine to red wine and candles and have decided on roast pork leg (with crackling of course!!) black pudding, fennel dauphinois, apple jam and something with carrots and a GU pot dessert as they were on offer and I can’t wait!!
