Is the greenhouse our responsibility?

My landlord wants us to pay £400 for removal of the greenhouse in the back garden.
We don’t use the greenhouse. It’s old and has a couple of broken windows and some weeds growing inside. He wants it cleared including the hardstanding and wants us to pay for this. Happy to replace the windows on it and tidy it up when we move but feels like he’s trying to get us to pay to renovate his back garden? Does it seem reasonable?

No, not unless you had it all put in while you've lived there! It's not your responsibility at all otherwise. He's what's known as a CF on here.

CupcakesK · 19/08/2022 10:52

Was the greenhouse already there when you moved in? If it is not yours he is being a CF and you shouldn't even be replacing the window unless you broke them. Unbelievable!
If it is yours and you had permission to put it there then he can't just decide he wants it gone, but you should remove it when you move out.

If you installed it :yes
If you didnt: no chance!! Can't imagine why he thinks it's down to you?

It was here when we moved in. The windows have just gotten broken over the years from windy weather and such I guess.
Thanks for the replies.

If he wants it gone, tell him to advertise it in Facebook Marketplace free. He will have people queuing to take it off his hands for allotments etc (make it clear that collectors must dismantle and must take everything).

CrapBag39 · 19/08/2022 11:05

Thats a good idea @cantkeepawayforever ill
pass that on.

We had a new greenhouse installed earlier in the year, and that was the advice given for disposing of the old one. I had 4 replies from takers within 30 mins, and the whole thing was dismantled and taken away within 36 hours.

Tell him to dream on!

it was there when you moved in, if he wants it removed he can pay for it and arrange it at a time that suits you (when you move out unless YOU want it gone)

not sure where you stand legally on the windows, but if it's just through weather I'd tell him to pay for them himself.

Hes trying it in & needs to be met with a firm 'NO'

'fuck off cheeky fucker' would be more satisfying, by less dignified!

BMW6 · 19/08/2022 11:22

No of course you shouldn't pay ! You didn't request removal!

Leafy3 · 19/08/2022 11:27

Well your LL is a cheeky f**cker isn't he?

CrapBag39 · 19/08/2022 11:31

He is a very cheeky fucker 😆 very difficult, prickly person too. I get the feeling he thinks he’s very important and superior because he has tenants in a 3 bed semi. Quite the lord of the manor.
