Do I need a passport to fly to London from Glasgow/Edinburgh?

Booked a wee London break for New Year. Planning to get there by train (me and two kids don’t have passports).

a bit concerned about the rail strikes and not being able to go, so wondering if flying is an option. However, 3 passports is a big expense right now (but might seriously consider it if it is required for this trip).

can anyone advise?

You just need some form of photo ID for internal flights. You can even use expired passports (within 5 years of expiry date). Kids under 16 don’t need ID.

You don’t need passports but depending on who you fly with you might need ID, a drivers licence would do. Under 16s shouldn’t need ID but check the airline.

I’ve never been asked for ID by BA

Oh this is fab - thanks!! I have my drivers licence and the kids are only 7 and 5 so we might be ok then!

Ahem. A few years I flew from London to Edinburgh for work. Travelling with someone much more senior than me. I had forgotten my passport, as hadn’t considered the need for identification for a domestic flight. After frantic rummaging through my wallet I managed to find ONE piece of photo ID. They let me on the flight with (drum roll please) my zoo pass as ID! So no, no passport needed!

Definitely don’t need ID for children but you do need either a driver’s license or passport. Double check the airline before you book Ryanair require passports for all flights even within the UK but you should be fine!
