NHS Right to choose- hospital said no

Posting here for traffic and hoping someone can help.

My DS had a severe anaphylactic reaction a couple of months ago and was very ill. It was very traumatic and at one point I thought we were going to lose him.

To cut a long story short, we waited 6 weeks for an allergy appointment at our local hospital which was completely substandard (for various reasons).

I’ve found some amazing looking paediatric allergy specialists who work for the NHS at a London hospital. My GP put in a referral for me but it was declined as the hospital won’t take on any new patients from out of their area.

Is that a flat out no that I just have to accept or is there anything I can do? I’ve been reading about the ‘right to choose’ on the NHS website but it’s not clear.

We’ve paid for a private consultation and blood tests but we don’t have any private healthcare at the moment so it’s not sustainable for us long term.

Thanks in advance.
