hi all I am not sure if I've posted this in the right section but here it goes..

I need advice I'm thinking of starting a printables business (invites, planners, posters etc)on etsy but from the research I've seen there are a lot of YouTube videos of how to do this business and how they are super successful, raving how great it is etc.

This is sort of making me uneasy as I'm not sure if this actually means it's not working as a viable business.

if there's anyone whose in this field and could give me a real honest feedback that would be great thanks.

I was initially really excited as I love doing arts and crafts and learning a bit of graphic design sounds like a dream hobby for me so all is not lost but I would love to know honest reviews of this industry.

many thanks

I can’t comment on your product but I sell on Etsy - home sewn products for children. I do ok, use it as a side hustle.

It’s a very crowded marketplace and it can be hard to be seen. I would probably do better if I spent more time on Facebook/instagram but tbh I can’t be arsed!!

have a look at the fees - they charge 20p per listing and then take a % of sales. Look at your material costs and factor in your time - will you actually make any money? It can be a relatively low cost way to start but be realistic about the growth (or not).

There is a lot to selling on Etsy - creating the products is a lot of fun but you also need to know SEO and other aspects.

will you just sell on Etsy? Will you have social media/an email list to drive people to buy on Etsy? How will your planners etc stand out from every one else’s?

I will be going into maternity in 2months so I thought I could start this in the background as a hobby whilst newborn naps etc I hope to have created before the baby arrives around 50 sets of printables in different categories ive got a few ideas and a plan on what I want the products to be off.

so strategy for now is more numbers of item to help be seen and getting friends and family to visit the store etc and if they want to purchase something to help me start that would be good.

I'm not very good with social media but perhaps I can create and advertise my products on there I haven't had a look into this part. thank you for the suggestions.

The Seo I've seen some YouTube videos about this but I haven't quite understood the ad part
