Jet2.com Cabin baggage

I’m doing online check in with Jet2 (going to Majorca from Leeds Bradford ) They’ve got option to pay for Guaranteed cabin baggage. We’ve got a small cabin size suitcase among our hand luggage which might not fit under the seat if no space on the shelves. What people think, should I pay for this guaranteed place? The problem is that you are not allowed to pay for just one place, it will be for all who travels way to and from.

We've recently been on a Jet2 flight and hardly anybody put their luggage on the shelves either way. The majority had bags that went under the seat so there seemed plenty of space in the overhead lockers.

We didn't pay. I don't think you need to

I didn’t pay when we recently went to Greece and it was no problem at all.

I think it just means that its guaranteed to go in the plane with you, as opposed to being put in the hold which sometimes happens with peoples hand luggage if the flight is full and everyone has cabin bags.
If its normal cabin size, thats fine. But if the flight is full (and you're at the end of the boarding queue) they may put some peoples cabin bags in then hold which obviously means you'll have to wait at baggage claim to get it.

The only time i've done this was when I was travelling only with cabin bag, no checked in lugggage, and had to get out of the airport the other end as quickly as possible for a train connection, so just did it so didn't have the extra wait time at the carousel.

It depends on whether you really want the bag to be in the cabin with you or if you're happy for it to go in the hold if there's no room left in the cabin. We normally wait until the end of the queue to board so have had the bags put in the hold a few times at the gate. It just depends on how busy the flight is and what type of bags other people before you in the queue are taking on board. We did pay for guaranteed cabin baggage once though when we were eloping as it had my wedding dress and accessories in and I didn't want it to leave my sight! If you're happy for it to go in the hold, you might want to put some bits you do want in the cabin in a smaller bag that you can just take out quickly to take on board with you if they do say your bag has to go in the hold.

It means that if the flight is full and the overhead lockers at capacity, they may need to take your suitcase and store it in the hold instead (at no extra charge). If it’s a sturdy suitcase I wouldn’t mind at all, unless I had to make a swift exit at the other end and couldn’t wait for the luggage to come out.

Would you have an issue with them placing your suitcase in the hold if there’s no more space left when you board?

We went with jet2 on full flights to and from to the Balearics and had no problem putting our small case in the overhead lockers. We were at the back too. I guess there’s always a risk but it wasn’t a problem for us.

smileandsing · 18/08/2022 13:09

I think because Jet2 include hold baggage in their ticket price far fewer people take small suitcases on board so you shouldn't have an issue with fitting it in the overhead storage bins

First time with Jet2 last week. Couldn't believe it when our carry on was the only case in the locker on the plane in our section. Don't pay it! It's definitely not like easyjet!

Thank you everyone, I will take another bag instead which is soft and will fit better, just in case, don’t want to pay extra unnecessary
