Hello
Going bra shopping with dd tomorrow she has never been properly measured mainly because of covid happening when she started wearing a bra (please don't judge me!) just done boob or bust and she is coming out as a 28 A or B. She is currently wearing 30A and it occasionally leaves marks should I try her on a 28 B or a 30 B? Really confused and even though I am happy to buy from marks and Spencer's I do t want her getting measured there as have read they aren't accurate? She will be wearing a non-wired bra if that makes any difference! Thanks for any advice

It depends where it marks I guess - if it’s round the chest strap bit then you probably don’t want a smaller band size. But I find bras like most clothes, different sizes fit in different styles and you just need to try them on and see what’s comfortable and fits. The only time I’ve been measured for one it was so tight and uncomfortable I couldn’t wear it……I probably wear one that’s several times the wrong size but I have small boobs that don’t demand much support! You should buy them new to fit in the loosest setting for the back then tighten it as the elasticity stretches.

Use the bra calculator for the shops you’re going in rather than a general size calculator

I find Boob and Bust useless. My most comfortable best-fitting size is 36A, although 34B is a good compromise, on the loosest clasps. B&B tells me I'm 30D. Even a 32C doesn't really do up round me without much stretching and digging in.

It can't be good for the skin to have red marks regularly. I'd go for a larger band and adjust the cup to fit.

I wouldn't go for a larger band. If she's going to wear bras for the rest of her life she needs to start out with good support. Try her in the sizes BorB has given you and see. She's probably a 30B in some and a 32 in tienes depending on style. Treat it like clothes and find something that offers her all that she needs.

Have a look at her wearing her current bra (if she'll let you!) Does the band ride up? How far can it stretch out from the body? Is there any overspill out the top or sides of the cups?

Back riding up means the back is too big. Overspill means the cup is too small

30A is a sister size of 28B (same cup volume on a different back size) so depending on how the current bra fits would determine if you went for a different back or cup size.

A 30B would be the same cup as a 28C so is bigger than a B cup on a 28 back.

I tried Boob or bust and found it useless. I ordered the size it told me to and I couldn't even fasten it. I went into a lingerie shop and got fitted properly. I ended up coming away with 2 different sized bras that both fit perfectly. The lady told me that all sizes and styles of bras are different. Just like jean sizes vary in different shops, bras are the same. You need to try them on and check the fit of them first.

I tried Boob or Bust and got a basic size and then we went into all the physical shops I could. We tried M&S and John Lewis and went one band lower and the one B&B suggested and one larger. We did the same with the cup.

B&B suggested 30 or 32 D or DD and R&P suggested 30D. We ended up with these in a 32DD and DD (!) loves them.Next soft bralettes 3 pack

kimchifox · 17/08/2022 20:27

Just try them on and check they fit - ie the band shouldn't be arching up the back, it should be flush on the chest not rising away from the body between the breasts, there should be no double boobage happening - no cups cutting into the middle of the breast, and bending forward the bra shouldn't be gaping with lots of space inside the cup. Obviously you may need to adjust the straps in the changing room.

Different style bras in the same size from the same shop may fit differently - made this mistake with DD thinking same size in a different style would fit and they don't!

timeforthebeach · 17/08/2022 20:32

I took my 14yo to a lingerie shop, the lady was super helpful and so discreet. DD didn't want to be measured but the lady offered lots of advice on band and cup size.
If your DD is wearing a 30 band and it's leaving marks, go for a larger band and smaller cup. The lingerie lady said teens shouldn't be wearing underwire as they are still growing and wires can damage the breast tissue. Also said that teens should wear their bras on the tightest fitting as they can loosen it as they are still growing. (Adults should try on the loosest setting and tighten as the elastic stretches).
So maybe try a 32AA (which is roughly equivalent to 30A). If boobs are spilling out then higher cup size. If it's still tight on the band then larger band. Only thing to do is to try loads. A proper lingerie shop will have smaller band sizes. We tried M&S and JL recently and sizes were rubbish there. Good luck!

Boob or bust couldn’t even find a bra size for me, it told me my measurements must be wrong! I must have inverted tits or something?!? 🤣

dementedpixie · 17/08/2022 20:34

But the bra could be leaving marks as the cup is too small so trying a larger cup is also an option

2anddone · 17/08/2022 22:11

Thanks everyone she let me measure her and see her with and without a bra this evening....she has definitely grown so will be trying a range on tomorrow.

If there is more than 1 inch difference between under and over bust measurements then she isn't an A cup.

Hope you are successful tomorrow
