Does anyone know a rough date when the supermarkets start stocking pumpkins please?

I would have thought it was towards the end of September / beginning of October?

Trinity65 · 17/08/2022 16:21

I would say Mid September onwards

Are you looking for it for a recipe? They sometimes have tinned pumpkin if you want it before they come into season.

QuebecBagnet · 17/08/2022 16:24

theyre ready early this year I reckon. Mine are a deep orange already in the veg plot. So depends I guess if they have space to store them until nearer halloween

abovedecknotbelow · 17/08/2022 16:24

To eat or carve? I think the weather will have had an impact this year.
Our eating ones on the allotment are still small.

Ripening in the fields around our way so as couple of weeks they will start harvesting.

As it stands my allotment has 12 and about 50 to come!!..
Anyone for soup?

Findahouse21 · 17/08/2022 16:27

Thank you, I'm hoping to buy a few to decorate dd's birthday party on 17th Oct so hopefully I should be okay and not too early from what you have said :)

I’ve given up my allotment now but they can be ridiculously prolific can’t they! We were swimming in them 😆

Raw pumpkin smells awful but add onions and chillis and blend and oh my!!..

You’ll be fine. Dd was buying them in early October last year and they were soft by halloween

Findahouse21 · 17/08/2022 17:20

Thanks everyone

@curiousitygotthebetterofme

I invariably make the Halloween pumpkin into soup next day - waste not want not. But it’s an Asian style soup - onion, garlic, chilli, ginger, chicken stock, and coconut milk. It’s delish. Ordinary pumpkin soup can be a bit tasteless IMO - it needs plenty of flavour added.
