September inset days - legoland

Currently planning a trip to Legoland before kids go back. Ideally a less busy day if possible. Our school has insets on the 1st and 2nd September (Thursday /Friday) and I was wondering how common these inset days are amongst other UK schools? Other option is to go on a Monday or Tuesday as imagine lots of people wait till the end of the week to go? Any thoughts?

Our children don't go back until 5th or 6th (South East) so I imagine they will be really busy days. I know Paultons park was heaving on those dates last year

Lots of schools tag on inset days to the end of the summer holidays so having the first few days of September off is very common.

My eldest goes back 2nd Sept, youngest 5th Sept - Hertfordshire.

A few years ago I thought this early September ..apparently it was the busiest day !!! It was how busy and car park was the furthest away…not fun with an over tired 7 year old and toddler

Thank you so much I think I’ll try a Monday or Tuesday instead!

I live 10 mins from Legoland, all schools in Windsor and Maidenhead have the 1st as an inset day and around 2/3rds have the 2nd as an inset day too.

My partner took our two last year on one of the inset days as I was actually delivering inset in a school en route… they only managed two rides and all had faces like wet weekends afterwards! I’d avoid!!

SE London borough, most of our schools have Thursday/Friday off.

Inset days are normally the busiest, tickets sell out, messages on the M25 saying do not travel unless you have tickets. We had free tickets a couple of years ago on day 2 of inset days but had been watching the Facebook posts. There were so many complaints about queues and food and drink places not being open (just after covid) we decided not to go.

DH is still recovering from taking the DC to Legoland on a September INSET day and it was 7 years ago! We had passes at the time so went regularly and he said he had never seen queues like it or the park so full.

neighboursmustliveon · 19/08/2022 08:43

Our inset day is the 5th sept so kids go back on 6th and 7th - secondary schools have yr 7 and yr 12 back on 6th so mine don't go back until the 6th.

NEVER go to Legoland on an inset day... well one that's tagged onto the school holidays.

MuddlingThrough1724 · 19/08/2022 15:00

Very common unset days I'm afraid. We went to Legoland on a Tuesday inset Day after half term and the world and his dog was also there, was heaving. Legoland are v inefficient at managing queues and slow to get people on and off rides, so I would only plan on getting on 4 or 5 rides even if you are there all day queing!

Penguinfeather781 · 19/08/2022 15:45

I’ve been on an inset day very successfully, but it was a completely random Tuesday in mid June. Every school I know has Thursday 1st Sept off here and almost all have the Friday too, it’s basically school holidays still. I’d avoid like the plague.

Sceptre86 · 19/08/2022 15:53

We went at the start of the Scottish Holidays thinking the English schools would still be on and they were. What I didn't account for was the fact that tourists go to legoland too and there were lots.
