Do GPS keep the pictures you send them?

Hi,

I was just wondering this. I sent a few pictures to my GP during a telephone appointment. It didn’t occur to me to ask whether they would be deleted. So, does anyone know if GPs hold onto pictures you send them (in your medical file) or are they deleted after the appointment?

Just curious.

Doh. Autocorrected to GPS - annoying!

They are stored in your notes as part of the record.

@Didiplanthis Thanks for the speedy answer!

I think it depends, so worth asking your Practice Manager what their retention policy is. I use Ask My GP and the pictures are only stored for the duration the request is open. I asked my GP to refer back to a closed request and he told me all photos are removed when closed as they are sensitive info.

@jessieminto Interesting. I will ask next time I have an appointment. This time around it wasn’t anything embarrassing. I’m not sure I’d feel that way if it was a picture of an intimate body part that might be stored on my file permanently

Our are filed onto patients notes but we don't ask for photos of any intimate areas.
