We took the ferry from Dover to Calais last week. We were on a 9 30 ferry so arrived before 8 to be on the safe side. Well, there were no queues at all. French just stamped passports without looking and UK just waved us through.
The queues were very slightly longer on our way home yesterday (11am ferry) but nothing like reported in the news. UK was taking their time checking all faces to passports.

Thank you. What did you do being early - do you just have to wait in the car?

Thanks for asking, we are travelling to France via Dover next week and have been wondering. P&O have been reporting delays on their twitter page so you can keep an eye there.
If you are travelling with P&O they are asking everyone to complete advanced ID information forms so double check anything like that before travelling (although I needed to phone them and the message on the phone line said they are aware of a current issue with the online form so it may not be possible which will of course impact queues).
I’m going to attempt to compete ours this evening so will report back.

We went a few weeks ago when it was first in the news about people queuing for hours - we got through in less than half and hour and they got us on an earlier ferry as were we four hours early. Everyone I’ve spoken to since has had a similar experience.

We were nearby last week at the castle and port looked empty but the ferry email said arrive two hours early. Have done the forms online @Binfire - we’re going DFDS

Yes, we just drove to the alloted lane and waited. Had snacks and went to toilet.

Just to update - passport v quick. Took ages to get through the check in but I think that was just our lane as other lanes were fine. No traffic on approach but that was from elsewhere in Kent not the motorway. We arrived around 10.15 for a midday ferry and it was more than fine

We are on the ferry now. Got here ridiculously early expecting carnage. No queues. Other than the small ones through passport control. They got us on the earlier ferry in the end which was a total result!
