Has anyone managed to live bill free ,no gas ,electricity or water bill ,if so how have you done it ,like solar panels ,rainwater to flush ect
are there any houses built specifically ,for being self sufficient with no bills

we can’t pay our bills from November when it goes up ,we are going to have to take out a £3000 loan to get through the winter ,and there’s only so many years we can do this

OP, I suggest you go to the Citizens advice service (CAB) and see one of their advisors. Something is wrong somewhere- which is good news as you (almost certainly) should not be paying anything like the amount you have been paying.

We have a new build so appreciate our house is warm (too warm at the moment). Our gas and electric is £140 at the moment (up from £70/£80 last winter). This is DD but about what we use. We have a smart meter and my DH logs on each month to pay off any extra.

Water is £35 a month on a meter. I can't imagine how anyone spends more than double what we do.

@neighboursmustliveon to be fair that’s quite a big thing to say ‘I can’t imagine how anyone spends more than double than we so’

it depends on so many factors; age and size of house, age of boiler, number of occupants, are they at home most of the time, have they got additional needs eg medial equipment that needs constant electrical charging, any illnesses which require extra heating,

so many variables make up the cost of a utilities bill

It’s taken shell 4 months to get back to us about the smart meter ,4 months of us ringing and email them regularly…no joke

We had issues with our smart meter measuring gas and it took moving supplier (ours went bust) to get it fixed. I think it was more than 8 months to get sorted.

Daft question, but what sort of lightbulbs do you use?
I saw this yesterday and it made me wonder...
