As the title. Got a nearly 5 year old conceived with clomid and born prem. I split with dad when he was a toddler and do 70pc on my own. Been in a new relationship for 18 months. Its suddenly dawned on me if I want another child I need to start thinking about it seriously.

Is there a reason you need to rush??

I've got a 9yr age gap between my two.

Diamondinthesolesofhershoes · 16/08/2022 16:49

I'm 36 with fertility issues.

Do you want another one?
We’ve got 1 by choice. I’m very happy with that decision.

Diamondinthesolesofhershoes · 16/08/2022 17:53

I think i do. I know I couldn't do all this again by myself though and there's no guarantee a relationship wouldn't end

Did you always know you wanted one only ?

I had my second at 38 and have fertility issues so please don't assume it's now or never. I know fertility reduces but it's not game over. I'm not saying to wait too long but do give yourself time to make a firm decision on what's right for your family

I've got one by choice. I didn't realise one was an option really until I split from his dad and realised I absolutely didn't want another. I've consciously avoided dating men who want children and my partner has had a vasectomy. Having one child is great in myriad ways.

Mehhhhhhh · 16/08/2022 20:39

Does he want a child with you?

CalistoNoSolo · 16/08/2022 20:45

One and done here. Why do you feel you need another child?

Diamondinthesolesofhershoes · 16/08/2022 21:16

He is open to children yes. I feel like I do want another but its alot of work too

We've got a small family and I do worry about lack of support as he gets older. Although that's not a given.

No, but for 10 years we didn’t want DC at all. I had a MMC and realised that life with our 2yo was really good as it was, so we didn’t try again.

Diamondinthesolesofhershoes · 17/08/2022 07:06

I just feel bad for him at times.

I'm one and done. I'm also an only child and perfectly happy with that, and have a small family. Haven't seen my cousins in years, our families aren't close, but I've lots of friends.

You don't have to have another one.

Diamondinthesolesofhershoes · 17/08/2022 07:46

I had a placental aprubtion aswell so that's another risk.

It sounds like you've been through a lot with your DC conception, pregnancy and birth. I'd want to speak to a obstetrician about if there were any risk factors to take into account there first.

Leaving your existing DC out of the equation do you really want another child? If your major need is for your DC to have future support rather than you and your DP wanting to have another child I wouldn't do it for that reason Siblings are no guarantee of future support or love or friendship. Some people do have amazing siblings, for others it can be the opposite. Most are probably somewhere in the middle. I love my siblings but we are very very different people and they've very much taken from me and our parents and I have no illusions about any future support. If you really want another child, I'd say get some medical advice and then (providing it's safe) go for it.

It's also the amount of work a woman takes on. I'm responsible for everything because my ex is a useless waster.
