Covering a colleague and due to flights being moved I will now be kid free in Bilbao for 36hrs! Anyone been? Any tips? Not booked accommodation yet and need to scope out conference location a bit more but am prioritising by planning my free time at the end first, obviously…

When I went I loved the steet performers outside guggenheim. Walked along river and through parks. Ate tapas in small square (and ashamed to say in macdonalds as had 2 and 5yo).

Oooh. Lucky you! I visited recently. It’s a great city.

Get the tourist bus. The ticket is valid for 24 hours so if you buy the ticket on the afternoon of your first day, it will still be valid on the morning of your second. You could do one full tour round, and then go again, getting off anywhere you’re interested in. Or, if I was planning it for you, I’d suggest you get off at:

  • the market (I forget it’s name. Sorry) there is a food court type thing in the middle level where you can drink sangria and eat pinxtos. From there, you can also have a wander around the old town

  • the funicular. It’s about €4 rtn. Worth it for the incredible views at the top.

  • the Guggenheim. It costs €18 to go in, but if you’re even remotely interested in art, it’s worth it

Have fun!

Honestly I'd book somewhere with a pool and lie by that with cocktails and a book!

Go to the Guggenheim. Only if you like art...

@alrightfella im not ruling that out but I know people at work will ask about the city so hoping to get some tips and optimise my time!
