Individual milk and condiments

Does anyone know where you can buy individual milk cartons, tiny jars of jam/Nutella and those little paper tubes of coffee/hot chocolate? Also perhaps a few of tomato sauce, vinegar etc.

My oldest is going travelling for a few months and I'm trying to get some useful things together but have to think about weight and no fridge!

I've looked on line but it's all for catering and in batches of 50. I suppose I could use the remaining 40 jams up but I wouldn't want the UHT milks!

@sunsetsandsandybeaches because he hasn't got a fridge (for the ketchup, once opened) and is incredibly short of room and has already weighed the van so can't put much more in it.

But ketchup doesn't need to go in the fridge and a jar of coffee/bottle of vinegar etc. won't take up anymore room than a stash of sachets would Confused

Now hang on just one minute please.

Ketchup needs to go in the fridge after being opened? Really??

How I have got to this age and never done this?!

My entire life I thought it lived in a cabinet.

Frith2013 · 14/08/2022 21:51

Ok, I'll not bother to get him anything then 🙄

Ketchup is never in the fridge.
Jam only if the weather is more than 25 degrees but it's not mandatory .
Milk - learning to drink tea/coffee black?
How about letting him do his own research?

Frith2013 · 14/08/2022 21:53

Quote fail above.

Yes, ketchup has to go in the fridge once opened. As does milk, mayo, jam and many of the other sachets I'm looking at.

Hence why I'm buying them. For the final time, I'm not buying jars of everything because legally, he can't add any extra weight.

These answers are so funny.

He's researched buying a van, converting a van, travel insurance, health insurance, money, using his phone abroad, the route, the timings, the wild camping, the work, the different laws, the ferry tickets, the timings....

I don't think he needs to research having a little treat.

Bloody hell.

Also, he's lived alone for years and travelled across Asia. He's an excellent cook.

Can't imagine what posters gain from mean replies saying I shouldn't offer a bit of help or a gift.

So bizarre.

Costco might be a good place , especially for the larger pack of uht milk. I’ve seen them
there- do you have one near or know anyone with membership if you don’t have one?

Luredbyapomegranate · 14/08/2022 22:01

You can usually get packs of 20 UHT sticks on Amazon.

Frith2013 · 14/08/2022 22:01

Re: Costco - I don't know of a local branch, I'm afraid. (We're v rural)

If he legally can’t add any more weight then you can’t buy him anything - whether small sachets or one large bottle - surely?Hmm

Luredbyapomegranate · 14/08/2022 22:04

Ketchup does not need to go in the fridge and nor does jam. Both protected by a shit ton of sugar

< misses point of thread>

Try here: sachetsandmore.com

@ChubbyBubbles This is fucking brilliant!

I travel a lot and constantly have too many little jars because I. Buy them from Eden

If he likes coffee op, the Taylor’s bags of ground coffee are really good - they are sold out here but you can get them in supermarkets. (Don’t buy Sainsburys own brand, far too weak)

Probably won’t have one near if you’re rural. I had a look in their website and it’s 120 individual tubs so probably too many for you anyway 😂 I think you’re a wonderful
mum for looking into this for your son!

DrJump · 14/08/2022 22:12

Is he a coffee drinker? You can get coffee bags in most supermarkets. Or a single pour over coffee like this one from Bodem www.thenbrc.co.uk/products/pour-over-with-insulated-mug

Having nice coffee while traveling without having to buy it every morning makes such a difference.

bellac11 · 14/08/2022 22:12

ketchup doesnt go in a fridge

Frith2013 · 14/08/2022 22:13

@User129867588 thank you. Honestly, I'd get something for anyone I know who was going on a trip. I didn't know I wasn't allowed to do "research" or that those people should do it all themselves....

Thank you, @ChubbyBubbles

Sorry I missed this, none of those items apart from milk need to go in the fridge and you can get the little uht sachets for that, although its horrible and you cant really have tea with them

Also if you cant even have a jar of jam in the van now that its been weighed how are you going to put anything in there including all these sachets?

UrsulaPandress · 14/08/2022 22:16

Our ketchup has never been near the fridge.

UrsulaPandress · 14/08/2022 22:16

Put coffee in a plastic bag.

Frith2013 · 14/08/2022 22:17

I've ordered everything now.

So I really don't need to hear any more bollocks about mayo (!) etc not going in a fridge. Perhaps have a look at the storage instructions on your own jars and bottles.

Thank you to those who helped with my question.

I got UHT sticks from Amazon. They do lots of different quantities.

Nothing wrong with buying things for other people, whether they're your kids or not!

UrsulaPandress · 14/08/2022 22:20

Well I’m 63 and haven’t been affected yet by unrefrigerated ketchup.
